A few friends and I had an awesome time fishing and ab diving the sonoma coast. This was my second time diving for abs and I am finally getting a bit more comfortable in the water. We had awesome conditions and visibility was outstanding. My main problem seems to be that I blow my wad really quick on the 8" plus abs and don't hold out for the larger ones. Next time I hope to take my time a bit more and try for a 9" plus sized snail.

After seeing a couple of fat cabbies and a lingcod hanging out on the bottom I now am very interested in getting a speargun as well! Highlight of the trip for me was trying out my new 10# spectra rig which is the 10-30# trevala and a 4500 series abu. No big fish this weekend but I really enjoyed playing with the new stick and even the gophers were fun on the dainty line.

Fishmaster are you happy with your speargun and if so what kind is it? I litterally know nothing about them but after this weekend I think it will be my next purchase (much to my wife's dismay). I only want to hunt the rockfish, lings and cabs no bluewater hunting for me so I assume a smaller gun is fine but am totally open to suggestions. I shot some sheepshead about 8 years ago in baja with a Hawaiian sling but that is the extent of my spearfishing experience.

Otter,

I was pretty sure last time you were lookin at those things your honey said no go, must be raking in those WAF points to pull that off....but I guess it's cheaper than a new (lighter) boat  :smt044 :smt044.

Just joken, always good to have the stable ride along, wish I could have run support for the dives.

Nice to see J out on a boat he must be #3 or #4 (or 5th?) that you have introduced to the sport. You got me into it and now it's hard to get back to fishing from the shore, although the recent S#@$k report has me leaning a bit closer to land.

Thanks for the post and the obsession,

Thanks for the kind words guys!

Wish you could have been there Tsuri I think you would have really enjoyed it and your wife would have had fun drinking with the girls! Theres always next time.

And yeah you're right about the speargun my wife is definitely not thrilled about the idea. In fact she doesn't really like me diving at all but she is nice enough to put up with it. After finishing the bathroom remodel I most likely have enough WAF to pull off the speargun now but I think I'll probably wait untill next season.

As far as the heavy (read stable) boat goes I don't see you complaining when it's hauling our crab traps around in another month for some dungies!  :smt002
