Guys,  you need to be more careful reading your regs...
DFG can change regs anytime they want.   Sometimes those changes are actually in our favor.  For example, in April of this year DFG reviewed its new creel surveys and decided that most of us could continue fishing for rockfish until the end of the year.

Here's the news release..
http://www.dfg.ca.gov/news/news05/05025.html

When in doubt check the website.  There's a nice map that will help you find your management area and all the current regs.
http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mrd/fishing_map.html

Better yet, give the hotline a call before you go.. (831) 649-2801 for groundfish (including rockfish)  or (707) 576-3429 for ocean salmon regs.

or sign up for the Marine Management News Letter
http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mrd/subscribe.html

Technically, they can change the regulations one day and if you didn't bother to call or check the website and end up violating the new reg you can still get cited.

Brian

P.S. enjoy rockfishing this December but remember that lingcod does close at the end of November.  (For those in the big ling pool, I think I read that it closes for you at the end of October  :smt002 )

I get the newsletter.  It can be helpful.  Like we were surprised that there is a commercial fishery for cabezon since I never see it on menus.

Never trust the leader of a contest. Big fish pool is not over until Dec. 31st although lings of course can't be caught out of season.

They can be weighed and photographed after oct though.   :smt003

I see cabbies in asian restraunts all the time in the southbay.  You have to go to a decent one tho, not mr chaus...  Check mayflower or ABC seafood in milpitas.

I'd love to kidnap the president of PETA and tie 'em on a chair and leave 'em in front of the checkstand  :smt003
