Met up with fishinmike Saturday. I wanted to be there at 8 a.m. but was late due to oversleeping. It turned out that Mike was even more late  :smt005. Others were already there by the time we launched on very mild condition, no incident. I'll let Mike tell his report but this was my version.

Worked our way to the north of the launch and was greeted with constant steady bite from the get go using metal jig on the bottom and shrimp fly on top. Picked up okay sized gophers, blues, and a 23" lingcod (released). Since I couldn't tell in the beginning if the ling was a keeper or not, I couldn't use the gaff (I didn't bring a net) so I had to bring it on board. Struggled fighting the hyper active ling while I measure and found that it's an inch too short  :smt010. Released and kept at it until about 12:30 and headed back with a nice stringer of (ceviche to be) rockfish.

Mike took pictures and I'm hoping he'll post them soon. His stringer was much better than mine!  :smt007. I found that other yak fishers did well landing lings too so I'd say it was a perfect day for yak fishing.

I wouldn't go so far as to call a lingcod filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a lingcod's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Good job.  I bet you'll get a big ling on your next trip.  Andy

What a great day. Met up with Frank, but never caught up with any of the other NCKA guys who (we thought) were around there somewhere. Perfect conditions, calm wind and small swell, brought out quite a few yak fishers. We saw at least 10 scattered around the area. The fish were biting pretty steadily. We worked north from the launch, keeping outside the kelp but fairly close to it. I got a couple of coppers and a couple of blues, decent sized but not large. Broke a few leaders on snags too. Then hooked something heavier, turned out to be a nice ling, later measured 30". He went back down to the bottom twice before I managed to gaff him, bring him aboard and apply the bonker. I was feeling good, had plenty of fish for supper so I put on a metal jig that I'd never had any success with before, and shortly hooked another fairly heavy fish, turned out to be a nice red, later measured 20". Fished a little more after that, kept one smaller red and released 4 or 5 coppers and blues before calling it a day. Everyone we talked to seemed to be catching fish. We had rockfish sauteed with tomatoes and zucchini over rice for dinner on Saturday, and Sunday was tacos made from ling cod sauteed in butter with lime and garlic and cilantro, served with chopped onions, avocados and mango salsa. Here are my pictures.

Nice job guys. Everyone caught fish this weekend but me  :smt010. Good job on the ling Mike. I met you earlier this season at Half Moon Bay fishing near Mavericks. I was able to scratch out a 28" ling that day, but that has been pretty much it for me this summer. Not enough days on the water and not fishing the right areas. Take care and thanks for the report guys.
