Yow.  Glad you're OK.   I guess he filled up on junk food (sealions).  Scary, but I bet you're glad you got to see it.

"poke it in it's eye, paddle it on the head!, let him know there are more of us coming out!"
 I can't believe you guys bought that B/S!  :smt005
I've surfed those SMC beaches every week for 15+years, I'm sure one swam by me somewhere along the ride.....that's what I told myelf I'm gonna do when my day comes, poke it in it's EYE!(with my lil'Pinkie) and punch its head. Then SCREAM for help!....i didn't drive an hour and a half, just to hang out and talk Shark,,,,,WE CAME TO FISH!!

That makes three times I've been there, to witness such an EVENT!  priceless!!

Sean~ with all the ocean experience you have, I'd consider it an HONOR to be able to tell a story like that(or the "dreaded" 15seconds of fame with pics) we'd never even get to see that pick you drew of what you saw. Glad you didn't send out the panic vibes though, because you never know what they'd do when they see a now faster, trying to escape thing......like a cat that attacks, just because something is running away.......VERY CALM,COOL&COLECTED you all were!
......oh! and congrads on being the first to be FOLLOWED(and lived to draw a picture about it) for 12 strokes in a kayak(witnessed by others)
I'm still buzzing myself!!   do GWShark eat 16"greenlings?  :smt004

Hot Dammit! I paddle a red Tarpon 160 #)$*()%! Like Aaron said, I would never tell my wife about Mr. Landlord's visit. Way to hang in there and I'm glad all of you are safe.
I wouldn't go so far as to call a lingcod filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a lingcod's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Reading your account sent some serious chills down my spine... Good job on keeping the calm. I've got some weird shark juju too... Many years ago, I think it was either 99 or 2000, I saw a shark maul a seal off Willow Creek. I was fishing alone and went back in as soon as it happened.

Brendan - On Saturday, one of the spearos at Willow said he had a GWS drive by off Willow last week.

Sean, glad you weren't in a red Hobie.  :smt005 Was thinking of fishing the bean that day but was too tired from my Saturday trip. Glad Aaron had your back. Fish with JMairey next time and his shark shield will protect you.

Great report, Sean. What an awesome experience!
:jawdrop
How many people have a close encounter like that? Glad it didn't cross the threshold into a Too Close Encounter but this is sure to be one of those great experiences you never forget, even if it was a little, um, nerve-wracking at the moment.

I was s'posed to be there Sun but woke up feeling like crap & none too willing to brave the elements.  :sad4:  Maybe it was a sign . . . or not!

whoa... that is an awesome post sean. I'm glad that you are alright. man... i was pretty stoked reading your story too. once upon a time... many years ago... a couple of buddies and myself finished fishing and an elderly couple came up to us to congratulate us on our catch. after talking to them for a while they mentioned that we should be careful out there. they said that there's a resident that they often see. they said that would see him right out in front of the cove and close in by the rocks. i've yet to see the landlord out there. however, i didn't doubt it then and i don't doubt it now. he's out there waiting to collect on some fool whose rent is overdue.

E gad,

Shoot went out to the point near the light house last weekend and before my partner could join me I got freaked out, couldn't figure out if it was the swell or what. Headed back near shore, friend and kelp but still felt uneasy until we got back to shore.

Thanks for confirming my fears, better not to be out there alone and you all have some nuts continuing to fish.

I was just thinking that perhaps a trip in the bay for stripers or Tahoe for whatever might be a refreshing change.

I wonder if banging on your boat with your fish bopper or your paddle would have turned him off.

Holy shite! Glad it all ended well. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't keep fishing and I wouldn't mind being called a wuss for it either!

I wonder if banging on your boat with your fish bopper or your paddle would have turned him off.

Or maybe it would turn him on.....
