Ironically... all the brands of squid I've ever bought, including Seawave, say they're all products of Monterey, CA.

The Casa Bodgea Deli across from MBK has squid and tackle. And sandwiches and beer. At the foot of Wharf 2 is Compass Bait + Tackle too. Or walk over to old fishermans wharf and buy from Chris' Fishing charters...obviously they're open early. Otherwise, yeah hit Safeway...but not the one in PG, I prefer the new Safeway on the corner of Fremont and Canyon Del Rey. Also on Fremont is Outdoor World and Big 5.
Good luck!

EDIT: Stopped by MBK on my lunchbreak to see how everybody did. Talked to Ken and it sounded slow, with 1 WSB for a boater and 1 cuda for a yakker. It was a trip to see all the NCKA cars in the lot....think I recognized 6 cars lol. Hopefully they score a hot afternoon bite.

Though there may be a fish or two roaming around still, the bites pretty much history in Monterey... Those fish come and go just as quickly, though there are always a few big residents around here. I heard of a 20lber being caught a ways back in Elkhorn Slough by the Pelagic Shark Research Foundation netters. I could see that area being a breeding ground for them.  :fat :wav:

From what I know about croakers Elkhorn, the South Bay & Tomales fo sure are the possible nurseries for residents.

BTW I heard a few more have come out of Tomales.........
