Forecast was for small craft advisory and winds up to 25+ MPH...went out super early to see if I could get in a few hours before it got too ugly...it was a little lumpy and windy right off the bat but then laid down and was typical FAC Capitola conditions...

There was a full moon and a big spot light was on over by the Cement Boat...I guess so they could work all night setting up for the annual Mar Monte Fireworks show...between the moon and the spot light, there was just enough light to let me see to start fishing early...I also got to see that my Glow Scampi tail really does glow in the dark!!!! Looked really cool in the black water!!!

Went over to the big Kelp bed right in front of the main Cap beach and worked my way up and down the western edge, bouncing a rock cod rig with a glow scampi tipped with squid on top and a frozen chovie chunk on the bottom...tons of action on real little rockies, and got my limit to bring home of medium sized Grass, Black and Yellow and Brown cod in a couple hours...

Back home, fish cleaned, two cooked and drinking beer on the couch by noon...at night we had family and friends over and cooked up 6 more, washed them down with assorted wines, beers and Flor De Caña Nicaraguan rum and then walked down with all the kiddies to watch the fireworks from the beach...I think next year I will take the kayak out and watch them OTW!!!

No spectacular fish to speak of, but had a really fun time fishing OTW and a blast cooking, eating and sharing good times with good friends afterwards...

Here is a pic of the view looking back from the water to the full moon setting behind Cap Pier, and one of the haul...

Good times!!!

Sincerely,

Jim

Jim, you are stoked living in Cap. I lived there a long time ago on sir francis ct and worked over on 41st ave. I remember walking down the railroad tracks to the cement ship smelling the eucalyptus trees and the railway timber along the way. Do trains still run along there? I remember having to jump in the bushes a few times as the trains sped by. A very cool town it is. Thanks for sharing your report and pics. It brought back old memories. jim

Nice of you to share your experiences.  A limit out of Capitola is a feat worth reporting on.  Good luck at Royal Vic this weekend

Jim, nice haul again.... dude, you are the Capitola rockfish master brother... I too live in town, right above capitola on the SC boarder. But man I cant coax one of those inshore rockies for anything! You never get skunked, nice work again... One of these days well hook up, surprised I havent seen ya out there yet, were out there all the time too.

redyak,
You, its still the same, great little nook on the monterey bay, trees still smelling good, and YES, the train runs every day, my house is backed up to the tracks at the Jade Street park.

Thanks guys...

I really enjoy fishing for, catching and eating those RockFish and am very thankful that I have had such good luck and good times this season right in my backyard...hopefully next spring/summer I will be able to get out and explore some other spots with some of you guys...

Yeah, it is a nice little spot to live...we are trying to buy a house down in Watsonville (where my wife and I both work), but if we get one we will definitely miss living so close to the water!!!

Porky, we definitely need to hook up once I get back from Canada and before the RFG season ends!!

Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Jim
