I guess the best way to identify them is the color of lower jaw (inside) right?

It's actually the color of the gums at the base of the teeth. Colors in the mouth of one species can be different colors but the color of the gums at the base of the teeth are much more consistent. The spots on the tail and back are a better way to differentiate IMO. The coho I've caught had very few, almost non existent spots on their tails and backs.

What threw me off was the white on the roof of the mouths on the kings there. I've caught a bunch on other rivers in the past and they were always all black in the mouth. It's all about the gums......... live and learn. :smt002

Haha the title threw me off, Craig. I thought this was going to be some sort of no-holds-barred battle royale between a chinook and a coho. Kinda like the old Bear vs Shark debate.   :smt044

After catching a few, it becomes second nature, and you don't even need to look at the gumline or tail.  Quick test ... what is this?
