Hobie Dave and I launched at 1st Street in Benicia this morning.  The wind was light and the current was OK.  We trolled toward the Carquinez bridge and neither of us got a bite.  I was trolling a rattle trap, looking for Stripers.  I'm not sure what Dave was trolling.  We decided to head back toward the launch and I headed for deeper water in the middle of the channel.  Suddenly, my rod bent and line started running out.  I grabbed the rod and attempted to get whatever it was that was on the hook, turned around.  After a few minutes, it began to tire and I managed to get it closer to the yak, when it jumped and I relaized it wasn't a Striper.  It took off and made another run before I managed to get it back to the yak and onboard long enough for Dave to get a picture before releasing it.  Too bad there's no Salmon season this year.  Albacore last week in Bandon and Salmon this week in the Bay.  Life is good!!!

Wow!  :smt007

WTG - it's great to hear that kind of news! My salmon identification skills are poor at best - what kind is it?

Oh...That's what a Salmon look like  :smt003  Haven't caught one for a long time so it's nice to see one of them caught in my back yard.  Last year I caught and released a nice Steelhead in Benicia while trolling for Stripers.  Congrat on the CPR Salmon and thanks for the report & picture Martin.

Just a Salmon C&R is awesome. Congrats. Let's hope our sacrifices today lead to a stronger fishery tomorrow.

wow, that is really awesome "bycatch"!  The choppers look a little pale so i'm guessing coho.  Damn fine fish, well done.

that is quite unbelievable. i also agree that fish is likely a coho.  wonder if he knows how few of his kind there are left.

Martin! What have you been smoking? :smt005 :smt005 Nice catch there Sir. I
bet that was a load of fun fighting the salmon on a kayak. Nice shot there Dave.

Not sure who can answer this question but, would this accidental catch count on
our AOTY? Just wondering. :smt003 Sorry for the thread jack Martin. It somewhat
relate to your catch this morning.

Thanks Jed.  We need to get out and do some rock fishing before the season ends.  I guess I'm going to have to break my "no fishing on weekends" rule.
