Sin Coast and I went down south of carmel for a trip Saturday.

Launched in a little breeze but no swell, it was pretty smooth. Overall perfect day for fishing.

Left the SMR area and fished some kelp beds for a few hours. Swell and wind were from apposite directions for a while which makes it challenging to drop into the kelp. Tied up most of the time and had a decent day. The bite was slow for Pat, with about a fish every 1/2 hour, but he pulled up some nice fish and had a huge fish come unbuttoned in the kelp. I think he brought home 3 or 4 real nice fish, but I will let him report.

My day was a little better as far as numbers... I brought 13 on board and released all but 3.

5 Blacks (kept 2)
3 canary (released all successfully)
1 cabezon undersized (released)
3 coppers (released 2) kept 1 nice one
1 gopher (released successfully)

Bite was off and on, most fish were smaller, but I brought home 3 nice ones.
Weather was perfect, a little breeze early, but by the time we finished it calm and flat. Lots of divers there.

Thanks Pat for the trip, that's one of my new favorite spots and intend to go there again soon.

Stoggie

Slow day catching. But great day fishing!
I only landed 7 fish, kept 2 coppers. We probably could've downsized and caught plenty of schoolies, if we really wanted to. I stuck w/the big stuff all day. At one point we were on a pinnacle that came up to 20ft, with 40-50ft depths around it...and I got slammed! Real heavy fish that ran horizontally behind me and broke my hand-tied leader...3 days later and I'm still bummed about that one!

No FF because my transducer came unglued. That's the 2nd time Humminbird's 2-part epoxy has failed on me. Compared to 3 jobs w/Goop that worked fine. So it's official...the epoxy that comes w/Humminbird units does NOT work on kayaks!

A few photos for your viewing pleasure.
Overcast morning.

Standard copper.

My final catch of the day. Not sure of the scientific name but I'm pretty sure it is called a "spikey sea-penis" lol. I don't know what the heck this thing was.
