Anyone up for some mini-tuna and a shot at halibut? I might go up EARLY, hoping to be off the water by 1.
Anyone? Anyone?

Hey Andrew :smt006 If you go on Monday, I'll join you for some mini tuna. I love
catching those things on light tackle.

Monday sounds good to me

I was there today.. lott of boats out but the only yaks (other than me) were sea kayaks and divorce boats.   Weather was great with a bit of wind noonish but not bad.    I wish I could go again tomorrow and actually fish more but I am heading out of town.   Good luck if you do get out!

Traffic was bad for sure.   Lot of ppl out for the long weekend.    As we were getting our boats out of the water,  a car club of some sort all pulls up in their lamborghinis, porches and etc..  some nice cars.  Anyway.. they all  parked along the red fire lane curb to take pictures of their cars.   I like to put in at the little spot at the end of the turnaround and so we are hauling the boats out and one or two were giving me all kinds of nasty "better not scratch my car" looks.  LOL.

What do you mean small tuna? Sorry but I am new to the ocean fishing so please be specific if possible. What size. Can you eat them. Any limits? What kind of gear / tackle / bait do you need?

Thanks,

J

Sorry - that's my slang for mackerel - a relative of tuna. Pacific mackerel have been thick in Tomales lately. They are good for bait, but if all else fails, they are great eating.

You can gut them and grill them whole, although they are quite bony, or you can fillet them and make sahimi out of them.

Whatever you do, either kill them and bleed them and ice them or keep them alive until you're done fishing, then kill, bleed, and ice. Mackerel can deteriorate fast, but they are very tasty.

I just realized I have to work on Tuesday - totally forgot. Monday's forecast is for windy conditions. I think I'm bailing out - sorry.

I am hoping to get out there this week. What techniques have been effective out there lately? Any butts happening?

Monday's forecast is for windy conditions.

"It can't be windy all the time"--apologies to Brandon Lee in the Crow.

Well maybe sometime later next week. Maybe farther down the coast like HMB, SC, or MBK will be better or just wait a bit. The Sea will have her 'me time' and we just have to wait.

I guess it will be Paradise on Monday for me. I was really looking forward to fish
Tomales Bay but, the weather would not permit it.
