I've been using the Adventure for 2 years. It's fast and easy to pedal. My feeling was if I'm getting a Hobie then get the big one. I use it primarily on the ocean so I like the ability to cruise fast and have plenty of internal space.

thx for the feedback. I am transitioning from an OK Malibu II so I was the "minivan" of the seas. stable...but it was quite the work out to get around. still..it was my first boat and I will still use it w/ family.

I bought my adventure last year but only really started using it for fishing this year. The only other yak I've paddled was a scupper pro I believe, or maybe it was a prowler(traded with shicken for a bit). That boat had a much more pleasurable "feel" as far as paddling from what I recall.

The adventure is one of the bigger boats among the kayakfising. Can be a beast sometimes, but It keeps me Happy  :smt001 For fishing utility, it's great. Even had the adventure out on the american river during Eppies last year and she did the job :smt008

I'd suggest demoing the Adventure, especially if you're used to a "minivan."  You might enjoy the Revo better.  That said, I love my adventure.

well...I went and just jumped on the clearence sale at CCK and got the adventurer..its a new 07 model that keith was clearing out for 1399.

now I got to figure how to rig the puppy. for now I may just take it out for some trial runs and see how she paddles...it will be a new experience but I am sick of being left in the dust, paddling more than actual fishing.

I like the thoughtful designs ie rudder storage/ deployment...mirage drive...

here is a question...if you guys launch / return at a place like Linda Mar...do you stow the mirage below decks so you don't hit rocks...or do you just offset the peddles?

also.. i guess I should have measured my garage..16ft is quite the distance..
thx for the feedback guys.

I, too, have the 07 Adventure, in orange, and it does indeed take up quite a bit of room, length wise.  I've got it hanging on the wall between my garage door and the entrance door and have a foot of clearance on either side.

In regards to stowing the mirage drive, it would be a MAJOR PITA solo.  If you've got somebody with you, then it wouldn't be so bad.  I've seen pictures, and I forget who posted them, but they strapped it down to the top of the bow with some bungee and it looked pretty solid.  It's what I will end up doing when I get around to it.  For easy launches, I'd say install it and offset the pedals.

Good Price!!!

AS far as launching and landing, best to remove the drive, especially as your learning your new ride...

I always just tie them off, usually have them in on launching, bit of a risk, Tote has a Great clip in system that he has done by tying into the the drive itself, another quick way to stow your rods uptop is to lay your rods down and secure with quick bungees or whatever,
still a bit of a risk  :smt002

michael,

took me a awhile to figure what you were saying with PITA....I am old guy but I finally figure the phonetics..

as for strapping the drive down..maybe it is sailfish...I saw sonny at linda mar back in july and recently viewed a picture of him and his Outback...he indeed strapped it to the front with bungee....
I figured it was bc of the rocky showline potentially damaging the drive..

but, I would thing that hey I want a quick propulsion system to get me out of the surf zone asap..

Keith at CCK said that if I do take the drive out...to drill a hole somewhere in order to pass a leash on it.. I am nervous as heck to lose it in case I spill in the surf zone.

as for garage suspension setup...yeah my garage door on rail system..plus the motors themselves really put a crimp on where I can hang it.. the best I can come up with is perpendicular to my cars...closer to the doorway to house..either way...it will be obtrusive.

the Hobie CD talked about removing the drain plug to equalize pressure/ temp fluctuations...do you do that?
my garage doe get warm in summer months so  I hope I haven't caused warping issures..

thanks danglin too for your suggestion to stow during entry exit.. seems prudent.

Leave one of the hatches open instead of opening the drain plug. It will ensure the inside dries all the way. You don't want mildew inside your hull. The other advantage is you won't ever launch and forget your drain plug is out. I hang my Adventure from my garage ceiling and leave the center hatch open. The center hatch is recessed so it doesn't hang down far. Add some tie down points to your yak. You will be glad you did when you come back from a day of fishing and the beach has gone from "it's so pretty out here" to "oh s%$#@, I know how this is going to end". I added bungies too but remember if it's expensive leash it. I lost a 300 dollar gun at Caspar and it was bungied very well. The gun was found the next day. The swell was 10 feet and bungies alone won't cut it in those conditions if you land the way I do (upside down).

First, congrats on your new Adventure.  I bought my used AI from CK too.  Was it a demo?  If it is you might still get the 2yr hull warranty from Hobie.  I just recently got mine also after trying several paddle types.  I've fished with it several times now with and without the amas (pontoons).  Yours probably don't have the amas but you can get the kit for it.  However, forget using them, your mirage drive and rudder if you are planning to fish around thick kelp.  If the kelp is so thick that you can't maneuver around them you have to pull your mirage drive out and lift your rudder up.  You then have to paddle which is kinda awkward if your seat is reclined a little for easier peddling. So you might need to adjust that.

Excellent choice, I fish from the adventure too.  I will be out there next season again, on the white one.

I take out my drive and put the drive axel into the mast hole. The permanently attached bungies hold the drive in place. I have crashed bad on landing and this set up doesn't come loose. I have a leash attached also. Here is how I set mine up. Bungees and cleats are from Hook1.

I have done many wicked surf landings in my Adventure and never hurt or lost my drive. I have had a few friends damage drives by surf landing with the drive in. Very expensive mistake.
So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains, where the spirits go...........

does anyone else's adventure leak?

my 07 leaks in wind waves for sure, i think it is taking water through the front hatch, rear hatch and through the rudder line entry points.
