Took my friend out kayak fishing at Tomales bay.  It's a nice day with FAC water in the morning.  This is his first kayak fishing trip and I think he's hooked!  :smt003 I trolled and drifted for Hali while he's having fun catching bait fish.  Hooked a big Hali on live Mackerel and enjoyed the 5 minute sleighride but it broke my 25lb leader on my second attempt to net it.  Oh well...maybe next time...

My friend paddling my Hobie Sport

He's having fun with the bait fish

Saw lots of Jellyfish took a couple pictures of this nice one

Saw a sign on the road which made me chuckle  :smt003

Very nice Sonny. I am beginning to love that place too. Is that Joe
finally catching fish for a change? The halibut you lost must have been
very big to break you off. Better luck next time. Let me know if you go
out again on a Saturdays, I'll be there. I am back to being a weekend
warrior. :smt010

As you tell everyone else Sonny...Good Karma to you for introducing your friend to this sport. It is always fun catching, even if it is only bait. I love the pictures and that sign is CLASSIC! Sorry about the loss but those Halis must know your reputation now and are trying like hell to get away when they see you... :smt044.

Yep, it's Joe on his maiden kayak fishing trip.  I'm helping a friend moving this Saturday (he needs my pickup truck) and suppose to host a hookup on Sunday in Vallejo/Mare Island unless people are bailing-out on me.
The Hali is at least 36" (my guess).  It could be my fault as I tightened the drag a little after failed to net it the first time!

Thanks for the good report&pics!!  .....a fish report, doesn't need pics of dead fish to be "good"  just the info you've shared with us, will make me want to go to Tomles now, more than ever.
I'll see you and your buddy on the water sometime soon, I'm sure!

Sonny,

thanks for the upbeat report, I love Tomales (on a calm day), never caught a hali there but had loads of fun on the leopards,  losing a fish like that at the net is like a little punch in the gut, ouch, cultivating more yakers=good Job,

dale

Nice report, sorry to hear about the hali, at least you got it to the surface and saw it. I know it's tough sometimes to net those guys. Nice job spreading the madness with your newbe friend. Thanks for the report

Thanks,  these little guys are really acrobatic and put up a great fight on light tackles.  Here are some more "action" pictures:
