It was cold and low tide at 5:30 monday morning. I got no bites for a couple of hours on varius plastics, spinnerbaits and a few topwater casts.  I downsized to a four inch green power worm with a chart tail and finally got a bite and a 12 1/2" LM. I couldn't get another bite in another hour so I gave up and paddled  up to the docks just past the bridge. I am new at kayaking so that took a couple of hours. No hits at the docks, spent the whole time fighting the wind, which wanted to blow me into the docked houseboats. I headed back, high tide and hot at noon, and my luck changed.  A 4 inch watermelon red Yum Dinger caught a ten inch LM  as soon as I passed the bridge, and from then on 1 out of every 3 well placed casts got a bite. There were, I admit, quite a few not well placed casts. It was time for me to go but in the next hour I caught 5 and lost 6 or 7 others. (I am not setting the hook well from the yak.) Man, that was fun.

Way to stick it out Opie.
Myself is new to the Kayaking World and I know what you mean about setting the hook from the yak. Different technique since everything is mostly upper body, but it sure is a blast when you do hook up with a fish. Keep on yaking.  :smt044

Great report, when its windy try dragging your feet in the water it slows me down helps my hook set. Great to see you stuck it out.

On Saturday I have got to start working again, but I am going tomorrow from 5:30 until noon. I launch from 3401 S. Whiskey Slough Rd., Holt,ca. The charge is $10 for the launch and park.  The sign says $15 but the guy who opens up, Hugo, told me that kayaks are only 10.
  What does CR stand for?

OPIE,

CR = Cosumnes Reserve by Galt.

I've caught LMB, but small ones the first time i was there last week. I know there are big ones lurking around.

Opie,

There is report of an "old" ferry area between Mildred and the road in the Whiskey Slough area. next time I will be there, I will take a photo of that area where you can launch the kayak from the levee.

Opie,
Take Inland Dr. off Hwy 4 and launch at Tiki Lagun.
They don't charge for kayaks and you are at the other end of Whiskey Slough with more options to fish.

CAUTION:
Bacon Island Rd. gets a lot of vandalism reports.
When I fished that area (1983-2004) I had my vehicle vandalized 5 times.

everytime I go bank fishing at that area, i always see sketchy looking characters in the levee and burnt out stolen cars too.

thats the only drawback. Too far to paddle from either Tiki or Whiskey Slough launch to Mildred.
