Anybody using this jacket?   I'm leaning towards the tempest pants and maybe

for a splash jacket.

Kokatat makes a great product. While the super breeze is Tropos instead of Gor-tex (warmer and breathable) it is a great lightweight paddling jacket.I just bought a Kokatat Gore-tex Action Jacket and love it.

I've used a superbreeze for about four years.  I just replaced it this year since it was pretty much worn out.

My advice would be to get a "semi-dry" top, one that has an inner tunnel that can be tucked into the tempest pants, and good arm and neck seals.  I like the "semi-dry" tops because the neck gasket is usually adjustable rather than a latex gasket type neck seal that can be a bit much.

My new jacket was a great deal, an Extrasport Semi Dry top and it has been great.  There are some left here at a really good price if they have your size.  http://www.backcountryoutlet.com/outlet/JOP0091/Extrasport-Semi-Dry-Top.html?CMP_ID=SH_FRO002&CMP_SKU=JOP0091&mv_pc=r126

I also sell a Lamiglas dry top at my storefront that has similar features, but I can't compete with that price.

Thanks for the link and heads up KZ!  I checked out the extrasport and they had one in XL so I grabbed one..  they seem to have a great return policy in case it just doesnt fit right,  and I got free shipping!

The arms in a jacket are always the issue with me.  Im 6'3, and the way I usually try on jackets is put it on.. then hold my arms out in front of me.  if the sleeves ride up to my elbows.. its too small.   :smt044

This is the one I have, and like it. Well made.  The collar can be left open for warm days.  It's on sale, $50.   I'm 6'3 , 195, and 37" sleeves, I think I got the XL, and it doesn't ride up the arms. It would probably take more material out of the sleeves to cover a larger torso than mine.

Me too, thanks Eric! With all the $ I saved I'm thinking I need to place an order for one of your gaffs!

WOW!  talk about fast shipping.. I ordered the jacket (extrasport) on the 25th.. and its here today.     Seems like it will be a great jacket..  I was worried about the arms being too short but they are plenty long and the jacket is easily roomy enough for a couple of layers underneath.    The seal around the wrists seems fine, tight but not overly so.   Neck is about same but I can loosen it a bit.

FYI... you can trim the latex gaskets on the wrists if they are too tight.  I had to do that on mine and they are very comfy now but still tight as a frog's butt.

Congrats, you have the official Erik K/Eric B combo...  Agreed, the extrasport top is nice because it gaskets in with the Tempest pants, and the neck can remain open for breathing room, (after and prior to beach launching).

You will be warm, dry, and comfortable.

careful trimmin the gaskets, try a little at a time.

Im leaning towards the tempest pants, esp now that I see how the jacket is set up.    Its been either that or a farmer john / 5mil boots combo and between the two, price is pretty much a  wash.    Will the tempest pants setup work ok for learning to beach launch?  I'm going to try and get up for one of the classes mentioned on this board and Im pretty sure I will roll in the surf many times.  lol

That looks like a nice top!

How is the cut on these? I'm kind of a tweener size-wise between M and L. Long arms and 42" chest, but 5'11" and 33" waist often puts me at the cusp and I need to order depending if the brand tends to run large or small.

But then, there are no M's available, so if the return policy is good, at that price maybe I take a leap 'o faith...

I'm usually hard to fit with this kind of thing but I have no issues with this jacket in XL.   (6'3 - 205lb)   The fit is nice and roomy.. I tried it on over a t shirt but there is plenty of room for a couple layers.   Biggest thing that I noticed is that my range of motion in this jacket is amazing.  no issues at all..  lots of room in the shoulders and chest.. fits snug aroundthe waist with the adjustments there.   when I reach out and swing my arms around.. there is no pulling at the sleeves or neck at all.

I would say go for it.   I got free shipping on it and it came in 2 days..  they sent it with a return sticker, and from what their site says.. their return policy is very good.

Nabbed one!

Eric B., whats the combination - pairing it with the Kokatat Tempest pants?

My Extrasport Semi Dry top in topaz arrived yesterday. I too may need to trim the wrist gaskets. Glad I wen with the XL. I'm 6' even and 190# w/ a 47" chest and seems to fit exactly right!

Okay, I'm almost embarrassed to ask this next question...

Does pairing the above top with the tempest pants make me submersion ready? In other words, is this combo meant to keep me dry in the event I go overboard?

Next up - See if I can find a killer deal on the tempest pants and return my yet unused NRS farmer john to REI.

Thanks gang!
