The best laid plans of mice and men.

Seems the stars were conspiring against me to get out today. I won't bore you with the details, but the upshot was my window of opportunity shrunk on both ends, requiring a later start and an early finish. I decided to make it local in order to maximize what little time I had, and hit Linda Mar instead of the lighthouse area.

The swell was bigger than I expected, but the wind was down and the sun was starting to peek out, and although there were no other yaks there, lot's of surfers and 3 aluminum fishing boats made me feel comfortable enough to go out alone.

I was set up for rockfish and didn't have my sabiki with me, so I decided to go around to San Pedro point and see what I could scare up. Marked a lot of bait on the way, even a couple of balls (saw a jumping 'dine as well), and marked a couple of large fish suspended ... No furbags, and not a ton of bird action though.

Caught a couple of blacks but that's it.

I overheard one of the guys in the boat telling his buddy in another boat that he had a ghost follow his bait right up to the surface.

My battery on my (non waterproof) camera died, so I'm sorry that I don't have any pics except the following, which will have to suffice that I actually boated a few fish. I give you "Rockfish Thumb".

There seem to be a lot of ghosties everywhere this year. This is one positive victory for good commercial fisheries management. Bet those fish you saw on your finder were the spooky ones.
Livin tha pirates life full time! Catchin big cbass in tha kelp all summer long Have fun, live well, conserve the resource, and ask me about my secret fishing spots. but I probably won't tell you, cuz their secret!

I'm guessing they were too. Always around a lot of suspended bait, and one big marked fish. About 30 - 40 ft. of water, and maybe 1/3 the way down. I saw that pattern at least 3 times. Tossed my jig at it each time, but no joy.
