Very short version = fishing sucks, sights and company are great.

Hit Paradise Sunday the 9th with my boy Billy. We fished live shiners from 8:30AM 'til a little after 2:00PM. Lots of bait in the water. Billy missed two or three hits and I got totally blanked. Weather was very nice.

Some pics. Billy & O2B:

Sorry to hear that the fish didn't cooperate, glad that mother nature did!  At least you were on the water fishing, more than I can say for myself. :smt011

Had Friday the 14th off, so I decided to give Paradise another shot. Sailfish also posted a report for this day. A few of us missed some bites but nobody landed any halis.

I had a nice one on but it let go before I could get it to color. Coulda been a leopard. I had one other bait come back with a small bite taken out of it. That was all the action I had. Terns and pelicans were diving on HUGE baitballs all day. On a few seperate occasions my FF blanked out on me due to massive bait balls under the yak. Never seen so much bait before with lots of big fish following it around...and nothing biting.

Fished with the fellas from 7:30AM til 3-something.

Some pics. Can you spot the diving pelicans in the last two?

Was gonna hit BH for the first time on Sunday, but my GF wanted to go crabbing somewhere. So since I still had most of my hali stuff packed in the ride and the conditions were sweet I decided to head back to good old Paradise. Bird also posted a report for this day.

Not even a bite, scratched bait, or anything...and I put in work. Bird and I thouroughly combed the area near "the clubhouse" and I did three drifts from the second set of pilings back to the pier, all at different depths.

Fished live shiners from a little after 8:00 'til a little after 2:00. Glad to hear Bird landed a hali. Tons of bait still out there and I saw the little dolphins, too. Way cool. Not as many birds diving as there were Friday, but still a few.

Only took one pic of the armada of boats out there. If you look close you can see Bird on the right.

I might give Paradise one more shot (for halis anyway) then no mas.

Ha! Thanks for the vote of confidence. I agree, though. Either they've been dessimated, have left for the year, or are just too full of sardines to bother with live shiners.

Good try RH. Did any of you tried catching some bait while they were around?
Just wondering to save some money on bait for a change. I'd like to try it there
one more time. That huge hali is still waiting for me there.

I think a few folks tried catching bait, but there was no consistant bite. On Sunday there were actually baitfish jumping around just out from the pilings. They looked like sardines or herring. Definitely weren't smelt.

I am going to hit it up on Friday, I plan on buying some bait and trying to make bait if I can find some.

Nice try Dustin and way to put your time in! I think it's been a bit slow for everyone in the bay lately. August is usually a good month for the ocean halibut if you've got the time to try some more.
