Hey NCKA divers,

looking to buy a dive knife for safety. Have seen several divers using Yazbeck and Picasso wetsuits, mount their dive knives on the speargun plate right in the middle of the sternum. Anyone using this system and mount and if so, can you tell me about what knife/scabbard you use and how you mount it to the sternum pad?

Thanks in advance,

SRJ

On my Picasso suit I sewed on some extra neoprene material in a pattern thats a little bigger that my knife & sheath on my forearm. I cut a slit into the neoprene and slide my knife & sheath right in. No need for straps and no worries about the knife handle getting caught in the kelp. I use the Riffe dagger style knife.

Concerning the chest pad I'm pretty sure they just cut slits right into the pad and run the straps through.

Ariel and Merv,

Thanks for the information. Will look forward to more information. Love to hear from other folks and how they make their equipment work for them.

I have one of the MAKO knives and it is a flat piece of stainless. It's very compact. I also have a Wenoka titanium knife that I bought at the dive shop south of Fort Bragg. It was on sale for 35. I love the knife because it has a line cutter, straight edge and serated edge. The titanium knife doesn't have the flat handle though.

I mount a small knife on my weight belt.  I figure that way if it gets tangled in anything I can drop my weight belt and get free.

Wouldn't a chest mount get in the way when loading a gun?
