I was down in Big Sur this week with my wife and kids, and it was really nice.  Driving past Garapata, I couldn't figure out how to get to an area to launch.  Can anyone share the basic launch info?  Thx

There is a goat trail that you get down with some help of ropes.

Garrapata is NOT recommended unless you have some serious surf skills.  On a super flat day, depending on the swell you can launch from the main beach.  BUT keep in mind the last time I did it, we turned the corner to land and found ourselves literally in the surfers lineup.  Flat when we left, cowabunga when we came back in.

I remember that launch well...5 failed launches before I finally got past the impact zone.  Amazing what you think about when you're upside down and about to get pile driven into the beach.

On the landing, my yak (16 foot Tarpon 160i) got picked up and was at a 90 degree angle to the beach after I bailed out.  Sorry no videos...

Still picking the sand out of my gear and hull...

For the wader doubters, after all that I only leaked enough water to get my FJ wetsuit wet.
My goal in life is to be as good of a person my dog already thinks I am.

by the way, I didnt mean to imply I had serious surf skills, just that any smart person would have them before trying this place.  I off course tend to leap first. Ouch!  If I didnt have SandMan guiding me in like those airport runway guys, I would have crashed and burned for sure.

look for the big barn, then the little pocket beach is on the left...er right...west..whatever.  Don't need a rope to get your boat down.
