Hey guys -

Could you recommend a brand or place where I could get a wetsuit. I've notice there are different types: farmer john with and without boots, waiters, and fullbody. What is the best style for kayak fishing?

Thanks,  John

I use a full lengh 3mil surf suit farmer jon style that I picked up used from a surf shop in Santa barbara for 5 dollars because it had sand in the zipper and did not work, nothing some water and plyers could not fix :smt003
I have seen many like it new for 50-100 dollars at surf/dive shops and even costco

Thanks for the input! I would of never thought to look at costco. They have some on the website for $39.99 however they only go down to the knees. I'm going by the bassproshop tonight in Manteca to see what they have. Oh what mm do you recommend?

If you use the wetsuit mainly for kayak fishing then a 3mm should be good enough.  If you also plan to ab dive with it, then a 5mm would be a better choice.

My kayak wetsuit is 3mm and my dive suit is 7mm but I don't go nearly as far paddling  with the thicker suit on
I also wear a t-shirt under my suit to cut down on my PFD rubbing raw spots on my arm pits and to stay a bit warmer but I think a paddling jacket would work well too

Try REI on line.  I got my 3mil FJ there under $100 (On the recommendations from others here)  If you have an REI close you can have it shipped there and pick it up in store and save shipping costs.

+1 on REI. Picked up the 3mil NRS farmer john recently, wear a short sleeve rashguard underneath, and man what a difference. I used to wear my 4/3ml surfing fullsuit and with the new suit I can paddle longer, harder, and with much greater comfort. Relief zipper is a must. 5ml booties with tennis shoe style soles and a nylon windbreaker jacket for those cold overcast days. jim

REI-Outlet currently has a 2mil farmer john on sale for $69.99 plus I have a coupon for 20% off. Is 2mil good enough if I take a spill in the ocean?

If it's sunny out and you have extra's like booties, rashguard, nylon jacket, etc... no problem. If it's overcast or cold/winter time then no. I would and did spend the extra $ for the 3ml. I am also considering buying the jacket to have on board in case of emergencies and for quick ab grabs. jim
