Rockhopper brought me his Gen II P-15 for some love.  Dustin is one of the OG, and we nearly died together one day...I was happy to get the task.  Here's how we did it.

Dustin wanted a center hatch.  He is definitely light enough for a P-15 center hatch, and the Gen II center hatch is raised a bit over the original.  We wanted the biggest 6 inch we could use.  I love the Hobie twist and seals, but their 6 incher was so big it did'nt fit.

So I made it fit!

The outer edge was only about 3/8 too big, but there was no way to make it sit flat in the indentation.  I decided to give the hatch a little more freeboard and shim it just above the indentation so it would be flush with the top.

I had tap make a spacer...

Can you see where its going...

Money!

We added a Scotty compact on one side, a Ram on the other and a 565 on a Ram...

Folded down for launching...

Trans in the TW...

We suspended an OK angler battery bag from the deck to keep the power high and dry and out of the way.  The trans cable is stich glued to the bottom to keep it out of his gear.  The hallway of hapiness...

We added two flushmounts. He also wanted a sturgeon anchor trolley...

A straight line from the stern to the cleat kept crossing the flushmount.  So I used a OK paddle button to keep his trolley line from covering the flusmount hole...

And some side handles.  These NEED to be stock for crying out loud OK!!!

This boat is still very light and very clean looking, check it out if you get a chance.

It's sooo sick. And still quite a bit lighter than my T13.

Super clean hull has been tested by stuffing two rods in the front hatch while OTW at Horseshoe Cove.

Humminbird 565 screen folds down nicely for landings and the RAM FF mount swings out of the way for car-topping.

Sean did an excellent job and I would highly recommend GWKC for kayak pimpin' for those like me who don't have the space or tools to do such a clean job.

Another super job Sean!  What is the white stuff wrapped around the FF cable on the deck.

Dustin, is this what you had at Albion or was it the T13?

Its nylon cable wrap.  It keeps the power cable and trans cable together so its less snaggy.

Really sweet rigging work!
Funny, yesterday I did almost the same thing with my bow line as Sean did with the rod holder-crossing anchor line, I used a modified deck loop in place of the button since I had an extra.

I'm confusted...the transducer is in the tankwell? or "inside" the hull where tankwell is... I'm about 3 days of planning away from taking my old P15 back under the knife, so where that 'ducer is kinda makes me drool abit.  My arms seem to be too short to reach the flat spot inside the hull under the tankwell (from the center hatch).

Nice!

Is that the standard length Humminbird arm on that 565 mount? I like how you set it up to lay flush on the deck.

Verrry nice work. She's a beaut!

One minor note though. With this current wiring configuration, the FF is mounted permanently--thus limiting the usability of the RAM mount (unless you want to unscrew the FF base from the RAM base every time). So while this RAM will allow you to swivel + adjust the position of the FF, it isn't being used to its full capacity.
Folded down for launching...

I like the idea of making a kayak bombproof w/a clean deck, especially when fishing the salt. The RAM allows you to do that. If you run the power & 'ducer plugs through the back of the head unit (just below where it says "Humminbird" in that pic) instead of through the punch-out slots in the base, you will be able to easily remove the entire head unit, base, and RAM extension while OTW no problem. This allows you to remove everything from the deck except the RAM ball and some wires (not a problem and can be pulled taught so they aren't dangling)....which is nice when launching or returning through surf. Or even when storing or transporting the kayak. Just another mod to consider.

I have found that having the head unit off OTW, even for a second, is how most corrosion was getting into the connectors on my units.  By keeping it out of harms way, but with all of the connections snuggled up and bathing in dielectric grease is good preventative medicine.

Also to make your concept work, would have to skip installing the plug retainer in the base...the retainer is key to making sure your connections stay connected.

You can still remove the head unit for transport. I dont see a big difference between leaving the base, or the wires that go into on the boat.

Steve-the Gen II P-15s have a special transducer compatible scupper like the ones in the footwells of a Trident.  It is a nice addition.
