Here are a few pics of some lures I made over the past few nights - not all are perfect pours but i'm gettin better.  these should keep me well stocked for a while.  I did well the other day with the light blue swimbaits on a 2 oz jig head.

I haven't tried the larger ones yet but I CAN"T WAIT UNTIL SATURDAY!  For the larger ones I made a mold of commercial lure and made my own jig head mold.  I use a 7/0 hook and pour a 1.5 oz.  lead jig head over it - I place it a bit further back rather than right in the nose like the original.  I can also use a 5/0 hook and put it in the nose if I choose, make it lighter or heavier. I like the gap on the 7/0 better though.  The others are standard issue 5"

Show off some pics of your own lures too.

Very nice indeed!  Are you consider selling/trading some of them in the future?

Thanks - Haven't really thought about that as I've poured 1/2 gallon of soft plastic in my illustrious lure making career.  I suppose I would be interested.  Admittedly they are still pretty homebrew but they work.  The dart jigs w/flashabou cover are ridiculous.   It almost makes it too easy.  Give a big vert jig up, let it flutter down, hit bottom, up again and WHAM!  I've called my shot on numerous occasions with these already.  Nothing like being in a yak and 'facing' an aluminum with 4 guys in it.

Once you have the mold the soft plastics are fairly easy to make.  Just microwave the juice, add the dye and pour. The jig heads are also fairly easy, but you are melting lead.  Hard Plastics are a bit tougher to get the balance and glide correct.  I watched that Larry Dahlberg Lure Making DVD.  Its available at http://www.huntforbigfish.com

These fish were caught on the 4th of July using just the dart jig - 3 hours otw.

I get most of my materials through Larry Dahlberg's site at www.huntforbigfish.com - the plastics and mold materials products are made by alumilite.  Larry sells them for the same price alumilite does from their site.  Since I have gained so much knowledge from Larry over the years, I prefer to support his site so he gets a little scratch for his efforts.  I will also say his customer service goes above and beyond.  He also has a new site called makelure.com with some video tutorials but I highly recommend buying the DVD - worth every penny.
