Stoggie-thanks for your perspective as well... You definitely have some valid points... however, I don't think we need to promote the sport in Big Sur... lets promote it in Carmel or somewhere like that, or santa cruz, san simeon, davenport, bean hollow etc. etc... someday, after all the spots have been fished, and all the mountains have been climbed, there will be no last frontiers... the danger and limited nature of Big Sur should keeps it health and relatively inaccessible, until you've acquired the skills to take it on your own...

LMFAO!! so the people who keep saying things about newbies this or newbies that do you guys feel that you are the chosen people made chosen by the fish god or something? the only people who can fish these areas? at the same time though i feel you about the places being over fished , trust me out here on the delta we have our hands full with these sturgeon poachers and we aint got it in us to "talk" or "complain" about it ether , we simply take action when we see people tryna load up 8 feet sturgeon into there minivans and have successfully made it uncomfortable to these people

all im sayin is lower it down with the newbie talk cuz there is some individuaals** that practice catch n release and have a real respect for habitats, if i could have it my way today i would say you can fish any body of water without any fish taken because some people aint in it to feed there familys there in it for the sport of catching fish and the idea that its being taken away bugs the shit out of me

lol@ gods chosen
o yea , if i catch a rockfish and it was in 60 feet or less and i watch it swim away then that fish should be ok right? whats the business with this thing that saves them ide like to know more?

also saying i dont catch n realese all the time ether ,il keep a few from time to time but i eat it pretty quick , no fish in the freezer type kinda guy

Brendan I can admit when I am wrong.  It's not cool to personally attack anyone, and for that I'm sorry.  By the way, what does it mean when you dare me to say it to your face?  Are you going to frighten me with your arguments.  You know what you were saying.  I am man enough to apologise when I've been wrong, and I hope you can go back to your post and see how you could have better used your influence.

Andy- Thanks for your apology and in the same respect I'd like to extend one to you... I shot you a low blow this morning, and probably was a bit more personal than I should have been.. I don't like being disrespectful but will definitely step up hard when someone steps to me. As far as daring you to say it to my face, I'm basically saying that I don't think you would have had it in you to say it to me, a person that you have never met before, in person... Its not meant to be taken as a threat, and I wouldn't have tried to frighten you with my arguments, but instead spoken of why i was disconcerted with an event of this size being hosted in such a spot, especially with their being so many other spots on the Cali coast... Spots like Big Sur are becoming fewer and farther between... Its like having a huge fishing tournament on an alpine trout lake filled with native fish... or, for you guys from the delta, having a huge torunament in your secret sturgeon drainage, or all the striped bass being pulled off a spot... once that resource has been hit to hard, it will take awhile to recover, if ever again... Its not even the one time tournament event that will leave its impact, but too many people knowing a spot like the south coast, and then taking all their friends to it, etc etc... Hopefully, if we cross paths we can laugh about the whole thing...
Bait n beer- Its not about newbies or no newbies, or gods chosen fishermen... Its about respecting the locals, and not blowing a spot up to hard that has been a well kept secret for years... Its about being taken to a spot on an invite basis, not hosting a huge event where years and years of knowledge that has been passed from one fisherman to the next gets dropped too quick... Once a spots blown up its blown for good... Imagine if your best sturgeon spot had the exact GPS coordinates posted on it, and one of your friends took every fisherman from San Jose, Fresno and Alameda to the exact spot and gave them the best ghost shrimp... they wouldn't have to learn on their own, and the goods would be given away too quick... then all your sturgeon would be gone and you locals would be pissed... same thing.. I'm all for localism, to a certain degree... Imagine if you and your family had lived, farmed and fished a certain area for 100 years, and all of a sudden a bunch of out of towners were showing up there to party and take all the breeding fish off the reefs... you'd be pissed too..  20 years ago international long liners from Vietnam and Japan were allowed off the nearshore (50-100 ft) reefs off Santa Cruz... As a result the rockfish and lingcod pops plummetted to pathetic levels, and its only through intenrational fishing moratoriums, heavily restricted recreational regs, and decreased seasons that our fishery has recovered to a healthy level... keep it local, bro... tread lightly when you come to a territory outside of your homefront... tread lightly on your own... Practice catch and release.. pick up the garbage that others leave, only take home the fish you need to feed your family for the evening, and give a beer to a local and maybe theyll drop some pearls of wisdom on you, or dial you into the particulars of a spot!.. As far as catch and release go, I only fish to eat... I'll go out, targeting big fish, catch my big fish for the day, and go back in and eat dank meals for the next week...
My 2 cents... I'll definitely share them along the way!...

good stuff bro and i agree on the things u say and my post wasnt directed towards just you , some of the lasts posts from oter people was making all newbies seem like the "dumb clumbsy fishermen that f**ked it up for everybody"
i might be new to kayaking but most def aint new to fishing , you were new at one time as well and we aint no different because werepart of the same generation and have seen the same things , you just started at one thing sooner then i did and thats it. blame the individuals for leaving trash or keeping stringer after stringer or telling there uncles , wifes and babys mommas about your fav fishing hole.
and brendan your killin me with the whole thing about you only fishing for dinner, you drive down to mexico to catch monster fish cuz u had the munchies? you do this for the sport so dont kid urself! haha

Yeah, its true... I fish to eat though... i wouldn't fish just to let it go... there's gotta be dank dinner plans to go along with the sport... I drove to Mexico for the adventure, and catching the cbass was just an added benefit... Still got seabass in the freezer... but thats so i can eat dank meals for the next two months once the rains come and I can't fish anymore... seabass with a bit of lemon pepper and dill on the bbq is one of the finesr!...
I've probably stepped out of line again, and some of you probably think I'm over the top, but someone needs to do it every once in awhile, otherwise all the spots on the Cali coast are gonna get blown up... this kayakfishing phenom has gained so much momentum over the past ten years that we're starting to turn into a force to be reckoned with, and one that has the potential to have a negative impact on the ecosystem... I've got no problems speaking my mind, especially on keeping the spots secret...
Anyhow, when you guys fish Big Sur, spend an afternoon cleaning up down by Mill Creek, Willow or Sand Dollar... Good fish karma points can go a long way.... watch the winds and swells... watch out for the landlord too, especially by Willow Rock and Plaskett Rock...  Don't use your fish finders... they're cheating down there and, you really don't need them... If the weathers good I might show up just to keep things in line... no... just kidding... We're planning on heading down there that weekend, weather permitting, as it could be the last good window of the season.

Brenden I hope you can look at your original post and see that it was rude to call out Sin Coast and then wish every one a bad trip.  It's not your message it's your method.

Sin, I apologize in that I have to bow out of the Big Sur trip. I need a salmon for AOTY and its my mission now. I am sorry I said I would be there. Hopefully someone can take my spot. Good Luck to all. Try to be friends. Fishermen have enough enemies right now.  Conservation and good sense go hand in hand and let no one try to impose tier will on others. It just doesnt work/ Thanks again PK for the hook up.I want to fish with you sometime. Craig

Yes, Ed. It would be great if people could let me know which nights they'll be camping--either by PM or responding here.

No apology needed. At least, not for me---I already knew B's feelings about this event. We have talked about it a couple of times both over PM and in person. But I am kinda upset about the personal attacks that were aimed at you, Andy. I don't even know you but the comments from Brendan were completely unacceptable. You can't say stuff like:
Yeah, that personal attack is coming from a guy from Bakersfield... I don't really think I'm gonna take him too seriously... and, he doesn't really look like he excercises too much either, so I don't think he spends to much time on the ocean... I'm surprised his kayak doesn't sink when he gets in it... People from Bakersfield should stay in the valley and fish for bass or something like that!
I mean....really dude? REALLY?!

Ok, Jesus guys...Group Hug!

As one of the many who have already pulled out of this event for reasons beyond my control  :smt010 I just want to say that I hope all of you appreciate the work Pat has put into this event, and go down there and HAVE A FREAKIN GOOD TIME.

I can appreciate Brendan's fears that the area will get blown out, but I think if you handle this correctly (ie: Pat preaching conservation and locals like Brendan sharing their love - and concerns - for the area, keeping reports MO in the forum), things will go just fine.  I mean seriously...it's been NO secret to me that the fishing in Big Sur is epic, thanks to the numerous reports on this forum over the years.  Yet, it in three plus years that I've been a kayak fisherman, I've never been able to make the trip to Big Sur for some yak fishing despite my overwhelming desire to do so.  I'm sure that I'm not the only one like this, either.  So maybe a few more guys find the time and desire to hit BS  once or twice a year...if they are NCKA'ers and follow the CPR/conservation/MO report that should be encouraged this weekend, I don't see the problem.

That said, have fun guys!  :smt004

well i'm still going regardless of what brendan thinks about it.  the truth is that BS is not exactly the biggest secret in the world, almost everyone on this site already knows that there is great rockfishing there.

However, there are still not many who go there due to the roughness of the area and the lack of access points for kayak launches.  I don't go because its a darn near 4 hour drive for me and out of range for a daytrip.  I figure its more of a 1x a year trip for me than anything else, and I will just be scratching the surface of big sur on this trip.  I don't think this get together will "destroy" Big Sur, the majority of us are conservation minded - i am there to c&r my ling and cabby if i can find them, and keep a few rockies.

pat, glad to hear you have descenders for all of us - i was about to buy one myself and i guess that saves me the trouble.  i'll be happy to pay you back for it if you want.

Reading earlier thread made me wanna puke in disbelief (sorry I had to be honest), ANDY, BRENDAN, ANDY (BaitnBeer), Sin Coast, RavenBlack

Andy, the comment on personal attack I can understand the POV, when I read the first thread its frustrating its almost kinda saying dont f'ing go here! but still not cool :smt012

Brendan, I understand about protecting locals fisheries, but, please let every NCKA bros enjoy it as well you dont need to be rude asking us to CPR its simple! rather than throwing us off completely... Just because you care so much doesn't mean we wont understand, I cant promise you I wont keep any fish specially if I see floaters I will pick em up! I have descender I got from ALBION, Again understand! but dont be selfish :smt012

BaitnBeer, You are definitely correct, everyone seems to be picking on newbies on that thread, this is not brotherhood NCKA practice, the reason we loved this site/group is because of the welcoming friendly people, dont care whats race nationality or what you do for a living we are banded together for the same reason enjoy fishing and natures. Please dont deprive newbies the experience you embrace, we newbies will cooperate to OG's recommendation.. :smt003

SinCoast/PAT (I think) Thank you for organizing this event I am looking forward I cant wait!  :smt003

RavensBlack, he is definitely correct NCKA has more enemies that we have to more to fear, Conservationist, MLPA Peeps, PETA Enviros etc.. this puts more treat to your favorite local fisheries, than just simple hookups thats set for all to meet and bond..lets put all our energies to fight against our known "enemies" not each others..

I apologize if I said something that offended anyone.. no pun intended :smt008 :smt008 :smt008

Now that I got that out of my chest I am going to be there Thursday afternoon my yak has my handle on just in case :smt005 :smt005 my family (Son and Wife) are coming with me..

Note: If anyone planning to beat me, please dont let my son see it, I am his hero you know.. :smt044 :smt044 :smt044
