Posting it here so only NCKA members can see it. I know it goes elsewhere but I don't want anyone but you guys and gals to read it.
Rip it. Give some feedback.
I watched a couple of hours of So Cals MLPA meeting. What seemed to strike a chord was when a mom and a grand dad spoke about their kids and grand kids fishing.
That is why I took the path of my speech.
I believe we will have enough people talking about the boundaries and science of it all.
The words are seperated and highlighted so they jump out at me.
This way it is easy for me to pick up if I stumble.

Good afternoon.

My name is Mike Totaro.

I support proposal 2XA.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It meets all the conservation objectives of the MLPA,

meets all the SAT guidelines at the moderate high level of protection

AND has the least negative economical impact

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But  more  important  it  gives  us  the  greatest  positive  impact  for  our

future  by  leaving  ocean  accessible  points  open  to  the  public.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Make no mistake about it; this is as much a social issue as it is an

environmental and economic issue.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s about raising our children and insuring our future.

I say this because as a father I have found no single-greater

mechanism for bonding with my son than spending time in

the ocean together.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We do this from kayaks when we fish and floats when we dive.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have been doing this together for the past eleven years.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He will be 18 years old this month and he possesses a heartfelt care

and ultimate respect for the ocean and its environment as anyone

 can.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This care and respect comes directly from his time on the ocean.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Time on the water builds character as well as provides an education.

It’s  a  socially  beneficial  tool.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kayak fishing and diving are far greater alternatives to gangs,

drugs, television, video games and all the other

negative distractions out there.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We believe that being active outdoors is an honest healthy lifestyle.

We choose to do it in the ocean.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you raise a child active, responsible and respectful that

child will grow up to be an active, responsible and respectful

adult.

One who is a contributing asset to society.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why would anyone want to take away or limit such a socially

beneficial tool?

Children ARE the future.

How will they know all there is to life if we don't allow them to

experience it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The future is today, the future is tomorrow and the future is the day

after tomorrow.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If massive closures take place then they have no future, it’s over for

them.

Please join me in support of a healthy future.

Please join me in support of 2XA.

My name is Mike Totaro.

I thank you for your time.

I like the the draft Tote. The best of luck to you. I'd like to thank you and the rest of you all who are attending and speaking tomorrow. I (we) appreciate all of your efforts to keep what we can of our coastline open. I wish I could be there tomorrow to help support, but I just cannot. Good Luck and Thanks again! Chad

I'll print it & stay in contact with Craig regarding your ETA - if you can't get there in time, I or someone else will read it on your behalf. I seriously hope to hear you say this, though.

Good Speech Mike--and it certainly speaks for my feelings on this.

People value what they know and tend to devalue things they don't understand. We have a great respect for nature in this country because we blessed with easy access to experience it and that allows us to pass that love on from generation to generation.  When I see litter around in the streets and in our parks--often with a few feet of obvious trash containers--I know those are people who don't respect the outdoors because they have not learned to care about it through experiencing it. I have seen that first-hand while chaperoning some of my daughter's school field trips over the last few years.

I'd rather see us protect our marine fisheries via active management that balances fishing with the health of the fishery than to see them closed down for ever.

I cannot make the meeting--I am committed to a family responsibility here in Santa Clara today--I appreciate those of you who are able to go and can represent those of us who want to but cannot.
