Blanked on my first run out of Paradise Cay. Just moved to Bay Area. Tried to make bait near the harbor mouth on the sabiki, but couldn't jig anything up. Drifted dead chovy bounceball style with a hoochie skirt, also cast swimbaits. Paddled other way toward paradise park and did a bunch of drifts from shore out into deeper water, same tactics. Had the swimbait tail bit off once. Pretty breezy. Fished 2 hours before and after the high tide at 11:50. Depthfinder recently fried, so no way to read the bottom. Oh well. Will try again. Any info on how that spot fishes best would be much appreciated. See you all out there.

If you want to save the cash on that depth counter try measuring 5 or 10 cranks on the reels you use. Then you can estimate depth without bringing a battery or all that other stuff. I hear dog food works for chum if you break it up and baiting the jig with those dead deans helps too - but I know, sometimes bait is just not in the area. If there is a lot of current or ledges then counting cranks will not work out, but most days it works fine for me. Never thought of using as skirt to dress up a dead dean, 'will try that sometime. Welcome to the Bay Area and good luck out there ...

I got addicted to the sounder/gps down in LA where I lived. It was the only way to find bait balls in deep water. I've tried the cat/dog food thing before but never had patience to see it through. Really looking forward to hitting a good bite up here.
