I'm going to give that a try my next rockfish outing. I lost 2 beautiful metal jigs last weekend on snags. Thanks for sharing!

Hmmmm... I have to try that set up next time. but here's the set up I always use. I caught a lot of lings on this, including the lings that made me a champion at Albion Open Tourney.

Kiel, did you paint the head blue or does it just appear that way from the flash?

I need to start using droppers.

I haven't yet try your set up, maybe this weekend if I can make it. I will let you know for sure. Fort Ross is kinda slow yesterday I only caught 5 fish and that's about it.

So with ReelKnots swim bait set up - do you just let it hit bottom, reel up once, and then let it sit there??

 - or should you move it around a bit??

I've only used live anchovies, frozen chovies, and frozen squid as bait - not the plastics.

That rig is a carolina rig in the bass fishing world.  Or in the surf fishing world, an over sized surf perch rig.   :smt003

That's a good rig to use. It's essentially a non-sliding Carolina rig.
It does allow the lure to have a more natural presentation.

But because the sinker is fixed, I end up with many short-bites and missed fish. The main problem with this setup though is that the sinker is falling faster than the lure, so the lure often gets wrapped around the main line...and you don't know until you reel up. To avoid this problem, try casting instead of dropping straight down, and also try to limit the speed of the drop (this allows the lure to sink at the same rate as the weight).

Yup!!! let it hit the bottom reel up twice or once to prevent not to get snag...jig it for 5 or 1o minutes also, if there's no hit? drop it back again, most of the time I got bite when I drop em back! when you reel it back? if you feels like you got snag? actually it's a fish on!!!! because ling or cab are predator.  :smt003  Yank it really hard! I bet you that's fish not a big rock.  :smt002
