I would love to hit Bean with you, but, planning to hit Horseshoe with Ravensblack and other brothers good luck out there, and as always be safe, weather is finally coming down enough to give us window to fish..

Modify: Change of Plan, I am going to BH on SAT instead.. Be there 6ish..

Mcag,

Shoreline within the San Mateo County like Halfmoon Bay, Pigeon Point, Bean Hollow, Ano Nuevo, San Gregorio etc. Google either on of the mentioned and you'll get the idea.

I wouldn't mind fishing any of those areas on Saturday.  I'm pretty new to the whole kayakfishing thing and have only fished off of Santa Cruz so I would need directions to the launch area.  Anyway, send me a message and let me know.

ffmoto,

Bean Hollow is 3 miles south of Pescadero. It can be a very difficult launch and even more challenging landing. Its a very steep beach. If you search this site, you will find many photos of epic crashes and yard sales.

Not trying to discourage you, but just want to inform you of the risks associated with this area.

That being said, this weekend looks great as far as the swell is concerned. It should be an easier launch. But, as the tide moves in, the landing can be dicey.

Rich

X2. With the possible exception of Pigeon Point, this area is NOT a place for those just getting started.

thanks for the information Rich.  Depending on the weather situation I might just try fishing off of santa cruz.

Rich/Craig are the person convinced me to try BH,  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 they told me "people can warn you on so many things the next thing you know is lake flat out there" your always open to check it out and have backup plan, my second time on the ocean was actually at BH, it was a blast thanks to both this guys and Don for helping out landing without any problem..

You are very welcome ffmoto. And by the way, welcome  to the site. :smt006

There are resources here to get advice and tips on safety, rigging, etc....

Your safety is #1. If you are planning on hitting some of the fishier spots which are predominately surf launches, practice self rescues with a fully loaded yak.

See ya out there!!!

Rich

I'll be there with a buddy on Sunday.  Plan to launch between 6:30 and 7:00.  Likely off the water by 11am.

Sunday conditions look about as good as it gets at the bean.

Quick editorial - seems like much of the "saftey" talk on this board is focused on launch and landing.  Personally - I'm more worried about what might go wrong 1/2 mile from shore in 55 degree water.  I'd much experience "issues" 10 yards from dry land - than out in the mighty Pacific.   :smt002

Yep, the launch/landing is really only half of the picture. Gordo stated the other half right there. the water was 52 degrees last time I fished there, the sea had 6-7ft waves, and the wind was 15mph+. Yuck.

OK - I was planning on going a little north of Bean, just south of Pescadero.  There's a launch there I like.  But if I can't wrestle anyone up (e.g., if you want to try it, let me know), I'll launch out of Bean and see you guys out there.
