Hey all,

thinking about trying out Ft. Ross next early next week. Must have a fix of salt water now, and can't wait for the ab reopener. Know the cove from ab diving(I live about 45 minutes away), but don't know any of the underwater structure for fishing.

Hoping someone can point out the fishy areas(aka super secret squirrel fishing holes complete with GPS coords, names, and all the rest. Just give it all up for the world to see). Don't have a fish finder(Getting hung up on the bottom tells me all I need to know, redneck style)Thanks in advance,

SRJ

Forget about the Fort brah. Them's waaay to easy pickin's right there. Try my secret spot. It's a bit more of a paddle, your sandwiched inbetween two SMCA'S, and speaking of sandwiches, if you go there just bring the bread. You'll be making something to fill the middle. Good luck. jim

Hey Boy's,
Don't be haters !!!!!!!!!!!  Go north young man or try the outside edge of the big reef to the south. There are plenty of fish and a lot of space to fish or miss them.
I went up on my own and found my way to some great reds and a big ling sometimes your good and sometimes your lucky.
Good Luck
Wally

Redyak,

You are either a devious prankster or a straight up mean SOB, just not sure which. Time will tell.  The written word can make things so muddled, don't ya know. A bit familiar with the grounds you so gracefully "Pointed" out to me, and with a single finger no less. You are one talented sucker with your sign language skills using one finger.  It's none other than ground zero for super turbo Great White Sharks. If I didn't know it, I'd think you were trying to feed me to the sharks, such as it were. Or, pass on a non subtle message.  I've seen this before and I'll sure as heck see it again as long as there are folks who misunderstand my lightheartendnesss and sometimes bizarre humor.

I seem to garner this kind of attention every time I post something on this site.  I love it. So, Jimbo, which is it? The other poster detected something more from your message. Help me out here.

All kidding aside, just a bit of tongue and cheek and an honest request to help a brother NCKA'er find some fish.

Regards,

SRJ

Seriously,

the "GPS coords, names, give it all up to me" comment was in the spirit of my "giant abalone" post, and as such, was apparently a COMPLETELY misunderstood take on my brand of humor. It was a joke, nothing less, nothing more.  Let's not get wrapped around the  axle here.

I better start paddling, the South Farralon ain't' gettin any closer. "We got a taxidermy man back home, he gonna have a heart attack when he sees what I brung him."

R Wally,

Thanks for the information. Was just looking for a general direction to paddle to and you provided it free of charge.

Shannon, Personally I've never been able to figure "bra" out. Sometimes supportive, other times it's hard to feel up, Whoops, I mean out. Especially with "just a little bit of tongue and cheek". I'm glad you love the attention either way. jim

My advice is to get on the water and fish. The ocean has fish in it the bottom has rocks.Combine the 2 and there you have it. If you are only 45 minutes away you should know all the great spots already. Ft Ross isnt one of them. You got the help on trophy abs.

I fished for years without a fishfinder or any electronics. Those are just toys. All you really need is a kayak and fishing rod. If the shoreline is rocky, then chances are, the bottom is, too. Ft Ross is a great place to launch.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

There is decent fishing straight out of the cove and just a bit South in about 60 feet of water. I'm terrible at judging distances, but I'd say once you get out of the main cove just paddle straight out maybe 200 yards and just a bit South is a decent reef. It's mostly sand around it, so when you find it you'll know. There is actually a rather pronounced patch of grass on the hill that you can use to line yourself up with once you find it.

If you look up the post from our Fort Ross opener you can clearly see where we were fishing. It's not really a secret...so there you go. There's better fishing in other areas North and South of the launch, but that's a good starting point.

Good luck!

Rock Hopper and others,

Thanks for the friendly and helpful posts on a starting point. You restore my faith in my fellow man, and validate my reason for becoming a member of this organization.

As for the other posters who have turned an inquisitive and innocent request for information into a personal platform to spew negativity and bad vibes, everyone on this site knows who you are. Craig, you just can't help yourself. Just had to get in one more dig didn't you. Thought we'd turned a corner.

Jim, you've stooped to a childish low by exploiting a spelling error in my post using it to humiliate me.  Went back and found some spelling errors in your posts but I'll not try to embarrass you to others on this site. Every one one of your posts has been mean spirited. I got my answer about you, straight up.

I'm embarrassed for you for your particular brand of ugliness. Have been ruminating on what would motivate you to say these things. I'll not lose any sleep over this. I live and work in a hard world and get plenty of S--- pie served to me. I receive it with a smile but certainly don't need more of it here.

Hope you revisit your posts and ask yourself what purpose they served.

Shannon
