Okay, I need a radio. Relatively cheap, simple, yet reliable. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Andrew

M2, here are a couple fairly recent threads with the same question that might help you find one:

I would go with a Standard Horizon or ICOM. Unless you get a floating model (usually more expensive), I would also leash it - they're easy to drop & sink like rocks.

Darius post is about the 3rd one down, and was the best deal I found at the time. I went with the Standard Horizon HX270 and it fits the bill about being simple reliable and relatively cheap, I think.

good thread.    i also followed Darius' advice and got the Standard Horizon 270S.   Looks like a basic VHF, good accessories and power pack, at a great price of $67.  Thanks!

If you buy the "floating model" write a message on it so when it washes up on some foreign shore the finder will get a kick out of it.... :smt011
