I have been shopping from him - but his stock is limited - for now at least....I hope. I did talk Marque recently and he will be selling live shrimp bait. I had suggested to him about selling live minnows but his tank is not big enough.

shrimp was the go-to bait in the florida keys where I was first exposed to kayak fishing. I read in vic dunaway's book that they can be kept live on ice pretty well. I used to just keep them in a bait bucket, I had so much fun with those guys, but rigging them with two hooks was the way to go otherwise mangrove snapper always bit off the end without the hook,  

It would be fun to paddle out at lindamar with a bucket of live shrimp I think, I have to assume cabezon and rockfish would like that. hard to know for sure tho.

I've actually caught RF at Linda Mar with tiny shrimp (the size of your fingernail) jumping out of their mouths - I pretty sure they will do fine....AND we can use shrimp for sturgeon as well  [/url]

i believe that all of the fish around here like shrimp, especially sturgeon and stripers.

My opinion is that fishing with shrimp as bait is like gambling...

It's taking something yummy (shrimp) and betting you can catch something bigger and/or more yummy.

I don't mind buying good shrimp as bait because I take home and cook what I don't use.  A good shrimp cocktail is a nice consolation prize for getting skunked.
Just make sure you keep your shrimp chilled the whole time otherwise you'll be....

Grass shrimp work great for black bass too during the spring...kind like little crawdads on the flats at your favorite lake.

Nope, not me.  I gave up on trying to find those expensive varieties for bait.  Now, I just head over to my local asian market's seafood section and buy what's called "white shrimp", also known as "jumping jack shrimp".  You can buy it fresh or frozen for about $3 a pound.   They look like huge grass shrimp.  Don't buy the headless ones.

The ghost shrimp are expensive, but grass shrimp usually run about 2 bucks a pound unless there is a shortage. I am sure it is all the same in the deep dark water at night

A little correction: 2lbs for frozen grass shrimp.

I used to see guys with slurp guns working mud flats for ghost shrimp, I can't remember where i used to see them.

What I really like about white shrimp is that you only need one per hook and it stays on way better than grass or ghost shrimp... without thread.

Also, with white shrimp.... you can take the left over bait home, boil it, and have a tasty peel'n eat shrimp snack.
