I have heard that the best way to install a transducer would be to use marine Goop, and stick it on the flattest part of the yak, and let it dry 24 hours or so.  Personally, I think the pool noodle way would be less reliable.

Hi Sledge,

Not sure what you mean by "stuck the ducer strait down".  Can you post a picture of your transducer in place?

Yeah i think Sledge means he put ducer in the noodle, but instead of running it flat he ran it vertical. He is saying his "noodle is too small" to run it flat.

Sorry Sledge couldnt resist that one.

Seriously though, get your noodle bigger. Took me forever to find the right size. Want me to mail you a sliver of "my fat noodle". :)

If that's was the case, I'm surprise that it "reads depths correctly"!

" I think the pool noodle way would be less reliable"  Have to disagree with you on this one.  Let splain to you.  Yes gluing the transducer down can and has work ed for many  Eventually, though, something will happen, say your stuffing something into the hull through a hatch located near the transducer, you could pop the tranny off the hull.  Air bubbles could form in the glue and cause false readings especially if, whatever glue is used, and not cured fully before the FF is turned on.

I've used Lexel, and silicon to glue my tranny into 3 separate hulls, (Warranty replacements) and my last install I went with the a "wet install" (Posted pictures of my install in theis site)  However you do do a wet install,(my term for it) only way your FF won't read really accurately is if you forget to fill the whatever holder is used with water.  By using water, and the water not leaking out, the transducer chance of having air bubbles below it are gone!  Should never have to worry about air pockets again (Again as long as tranny is submerged in water) The FF will also display water temp rather quickly, as the tranny water cools to heats depending on the water your floating in.
Now, I recently discovered ( At paradise fish & chill II) that getting water into my tranny bath was a little difficult with out a small water bottle.  Tranny location is such that only small water bottles will allow me to pour water in easily. I have the tranny located in the front, behind the sail mast tube on my OB. So, now I carry a small 8oz water bottle in the hull all the time now.

You can cut a piece of a boogey board or any other closed cell foam like a garden kneeling pad.  You can easily make it big enough to fit the transponder in the correct position.

I bought a flat faced shoot thru hull transducer ($50) and installed it per the directions that came with it, just substituted marine goop for the recommended epoxy, I installed it in line with and just a little to the outside of the  scuppers and then attached a piece of wood from scupper to scupper with zip tys, to protect the transducer from the things I stow like weight belts and other assorted gear. 2 years, no problems at all, no filling a donut with water no nothing, just launch and go.

I think even a transom mount transducer would work like this, the goop just permanently taking the place of the fill water.

Have yet to aquire a camara :smt012...but porky nailed it...last nite I took some closed cell foam and wraped it with duck tape like yours porky...and than took gorilla glue and glued the heck out of it...made more low profile and my only concern is like Dale L my "stuff" floppying around weight belts or such might knock it loose...but I really poured on the glue... :smt001 my priovus install was giving me dubious readings, but funtioned some what...have never had one to compare...to night is the wet test after the grulling heat here in Lake Co...blue lake will be so nice and maybe a chunker LB will agree

Sledge, nice one! but thats 225, dont add any more on!!  :)

yeah it should work, the duct tape wrapped around the noodle in my case was to keep it from ripping when it gets bummped and what not, the ducer was big and on my first attempt, when i trided to put the ducer in the foam, the foam ripped a bit, eventually it would have tore, the tape made it bullet proof, i can bump the hell out of that thing its not going to rip or move.... good gluing from the foam to the boat is the trick..

so on my just the noodle is glued, the ducer fits in the snug! But i can pull it out of the foam if need be!
