I plan to get a yak for fishing in lake or coast near shore. I am wondering if I can get a tandem and use as solo when I am fishing.  Because my wife would like to yak with me but not when I am fishing.

Well here is some advice from personal experience.

Try the native magic 14.5 out, I'm sure the bay dealers let you do this.

It paddles really well solo, in fact I think the tandem option was somewhat of an after thought.  Does muck better than the other brands XL.

Check it out, I am new to the kayak thing but have literally demoed at least 4 different brands and styles, the magic works well, a little heavy, but very versatile.  I have caught lots of rockfish off of it, and have owned it for a short time.

Good luck, o yeah the seating on them is heads and shoulders more comfortable that anything else on the market.

My long time girl friend and I have done both, single and tandem, a couple of years ago we went to dinner with some friends, They said, "hey you guys kayak, we're thinking about it, should we get singles or a double?" Before they actually finished the question my girlfiiend and I both blurted out Singles!!!!!!!!!
