Had a well deserved vacation these last few days spent the first few nights near donner camping with friends hiked way up to a few clustered lakes near our area, no fish in them but was a cool hike some pretty agressive climbs well worth it even with the barren lakes.
the next day we all (10 of us) rafted down the truckee river with a couple coolers of beer no whitewater but still fun.
fished the truckee that morning tossing panther martins and kastmasters gold and brown trout looking patterns seemed to work best. got many bites, several fights, but those fish in that river flip flopped every lure out before we could get our hands on em. hooked and fought 10+/- between my fishin buddy and i
but any way after my friends left i stayed over another day with my other friend who lives in north shore tahoe. we went on monday to cascade creek which is near emerald bay a little bit further toward south shore. beautiful area another good hike and my friend put me on my first brookies which was what i really went up there for. cool little creek tons of little brookies and a sparse sprinkling of wild rainbows no big fish being that the creek is tiny in most spots but as long as you find a pool and dont spook em your in for many fish. I stopped counting after 10 i think. nothing more than 6 or 7". but the friend i was with is all about fly fishing so i had great action on a 3 weight though now i want to buy a 1wt or a zero weight for little creeks i spent most of the time prior spin fishing but i have to say in the situation nothing could have topped a fly. or nymph actually.
tons of fun check it out be kind to the area and gentle to the brookies!
