Met up with Porky at cap wharf around 5:45 he was already on the sand waiting.
Unloaded and launched by 6.
Paddled West to just past the point. We fished aotside the kelp for a couple hours for nothing, not even a bite. Porky suggested we go into the kelp and fish the channel between the main beds. He started to get hits as soon as he got there.
Soon after i joined him an the fun started. We were into a good bite with one out of every 6 fish being worth keeping. I caught about a dozen fish keeping three. Two were nice sized browns and one surprise takedown. This fish felt like a 'but as far as weight, but fought like a ling, thought maybe i hooked a bass, but brought up a pig cabazon. 23 inches and as big around as my thigh. Real nice pig. Porky shot a pic and we'll have t wait to see his post. They were hot for a 6oz leadhead with a green tail and a shrimp fly tied about a foot above.

The weather was awesome, flat water and little wind. The kelp kicked up many bites. I think porky caught about a dozen as well but letmost go as well. Just kept the nice ones.

Now for the rest of the story

I think we wrote our reports at the same time, I posted the pic in mine, but lets post it here too for shits and giggles.

Pic doesn't do it justice, but its head was HUGE.

Wow you guys sound like you had a good time. I launched out of the harbor trying to avoid the Capitola tourist crowd. Was planning on making bait and heading towards you guys but between the chop and boat wakes I stayed put. The wind came up out of the NW  so I figured if I went toward Capitola I might not be strong enough to paddle back. Went straight out and drifted dines for nada, after a couple hours the wind shifted to blow from the SW. Ended up the day landing four nice sardines woo hoo. Ganoderma and friend paddled by but did about as well as I. Next time I stay local I will launch at Capitola and deal with the parking. The harbor mouth area on the weekend is crazy.

Yeah, we seem to launch CAP when we stay in town. The beach was crowded upon return. Its funny too, we launched at 6am to a empty beach and returned to crowds. People always trip when they see you land on a crowded beach. Dirty boat, rods, fish, wetsuits. They look at us like the Lochness Monster just creeped out of the ocean and onto the beach. Today Stoggie was greeted like the town hero when he arrived at the beach with that big Cabby, the kids And a few adults flocked to his boat on shore. Classic!

Good time.

It was as much fun as you can have with your clothes on.

Started slow but ws so nice it didn't matter. Once the bite came on it was a blast.
Didn't even mind losing a few lures on snags and big takedowns.

And it is fun coming in to a crowd of tourists with the dads checking out your ride and asking questions, the kds playing with the catch and the moms looking good in bikinis.

Rock star! Lol
