"I caught a hundred pound stergeon on 20lb test...Fish On!!!"
Les Claypool

According to Les it was actually a 100lb stergeon on 18lb test but he thought 20lb sounded better.

Have you ever caught a fish that exceeded the # test of your fishing line? My biggest fish that went over the advertised breakage point of my line was an 8lb rainbow on 6lb test.

So lets hear it people. How big on what lb test? And be honest  :smt044

the thresher in my avatar weighed about 70lbs and fought like hell.  I was using 20lb clear berkeley mono.  20 lb mono leader.  It fought like it was tail hooked and when I landed it I realized the tail was indeed wrapped by my leader.  The mono all the way thru to the middle of the spool had to be replaced afterwards.

I've caught alot of fish with 12 and 15 lb test that outweighed the mono by 3 times.  It doesn't matter as long as you dont lift the weight of the fish straight up out of the water.

I've caught lots of kings on 12lb, but the catch that seemed the toughest was actually a 8lb flathead catfish on 2lb test while trout fishing.

Estimated 70lb bat ray (took both Shannon and I to drag in on shore and release her) on a calcutta 250 with 10lb Izorline with a seeker r196-7 rod.  Shannon timed the fight and it took 46 minutes to land.  Almost spooled me three times but fortunately it did the typical bat ray thing and ran, then turned back.  I'll see if Shannon can find me the pics she took.

Great replies so far guys, thanks for sharing. There's not much you can do in fishing that's more exciting than properly playing a big on light line and coming out victorious IMO.

This one last year was about 25lbs, on 8 lb test spin gear. It bottomed out the 20 lb scale I had. Funny thing is, a fish about 14 lbs fought twice as hard. Not that the bigger one was a slouch, it fought as it should, I just think that maybe fish are individuals and some are stronger for their size.
They were all memorable on that trip.
