The Cove was a zoo Saturday.  There were 4th of July festivities, and lots of people were fishing.  I met up with Sin Coast around 8:30 and we launched onto a flat ocean.  We found FishinMike outside and drifted with the current to the north and fished off of a popular dive spot for a while.  I was running herring on a tuna leader ( :smt003) and C&R'd two underlings and a black.  Sin Coast bagged a nice 31" ling right off the bat (literally the first drop I think!) and he and Mike had a mixed bag of nice cabs and blacks.  We got off the water around noon and went our separate ways.  Nice hooking up with you guys.  Good Times at the Cove.   :smt001

Da Cove plus Da 4th equals Da Bomb!
Good fishing with you guys. We were treated to some really nice conditions and got to fish in tight to shore and washrocks.
I got a ton of chubby blacks and quite a few nice cabs. Alos got some lings, including the 30" hitchhiker on the first drop! I saw it chomped onto a 15" black and grabbed my net-----scooped em up head-first and right onto the deck for the lingcodleglock (patent pending!)  :smt044
That was enough fish for the day so I issued a pardon to all subsequently caught fish.  :smt002
I fished from my mom's P13. Installed some rod holders and stuff the previous night. I think its a 2006, we got it used from CL. But I really liked the way it paddled, after railing on it a few times to see how fast she could go.

The fishing on Da 4th from Da Yak was actually a better bite than the previous day from a boat. I fished w/my Dad for the first time in years and it was great but not redhot. We got some big lings and cabs and chinas and I got my first rock sole--it was a hog. Fun beach launch. Fortunately we have an Extenda-hitch, so we don't have to pay the tractor launch. We saw some big pacific halibut at the cleaning station including some 70lbers!!! One had a 26" ling in its stomach! Quite a few pacbutts caught over the wknd, but none by me. Didn't hear of any albacore caught either.

The 4th of July fireworks party at the Cove was incredible! More people than you could ever imagine packed into the area around the cleaning station and road, watching the crazy illegal fireworks show that went on for 3 HOURS! It was a huge street party scene.
In fact, the whole wknd was the most people I've ever seen there--it was a zoo. My son got to ride in the golf-cart choochoo train in the "parade" and it was great--just turned 2 a few days ago.

Anyways, on to the pics.

Very nice report, guys. Nice fish, sounds like a great hook up.----scooped em up head-first and right onto the deck for the lingcodleglock (patent pending!)  :smt044 Careful with that, sounds dangerously close to the tomatoes :smt044

Thanks for the report and pictures Eric. Man, I missed that place a lot.
I can't wait till next year's event. Perhaps one more trip this year
before the rockfish season closes. I would love to fish with you again
up there.
Pat, congrats on the ling bro. All the fish in that area are quality fish.
I wonder if they take steroids especially the cabs.
How did Mike do?

Just say the word, Jed - I'll try to hookup with you if you come up.  Mike's a pretty subdued dude, but the smiles were flowing out there.   :smt001

Cabs are one of the best eating fish available, and they're really cool too.  Softest pectoral fins around - I like to fondle them.   :smt007 :smt004
