Had a nice time with everybody out there today! After we paddled out I found our reefs to the south and after just a couple drops I had my first cabezon of the day. By the end of the day I had my choice of cabezon after landing close to 10 cabbies. I also caught a wide variety of rockies and kept the biggest black rf I've ever caught along with a couple nice browns.

Launched and landed without incident with Ravensblack. Thanks for being my fishing partner today. I promise that next time I won't catch quite so many fish before you do!  :smt044

Bitter Sweet!!  That blows on the broke rod.  WTHellHappened?

Sean!  you got the HotStick at Bean so far this year. Triple Congrads on your DominatingDayOnTheBlue!

Good to hear all made it out&back without harm....and caught fish too?!  Reads like it may start up sooner than last year.

How long did you guys have to wait before the window of launch?

All the worry about the launch at THE BEAN weighed on me all last night. When Jay and myself pulled up to THE BEAN it was flat and real nice. It wasnt my day for alot of fish but I got what I came for. A nice cab at 20.75 to add to my points . I am happy with that. I have to tell you though when you are sandwiched by Jay and Sean who are both hooked up right next to you, and I cant buy a bite, I kept saying WTG you guys! Although I really hate your guts right now. :smt005 Thanks for the great time Bigwavedave for puttin' up the post. All you guys I fished with today you are the best.We had some laughs, some good water and I saw some real interesting ways to catch huge lings. Enter Sean. :smt002

Hey Jay, I'm glad you had a great productive day at BH. Sean, you have been doing
really good on the lingcod. It must be the secret lure. :smt044 Eric, sorry about the
broken rod bro. Glad to hear about the safe landing though. Craig, you'll have your
fair share of good fishing you'll see. It is called good karma. You're too nice of a guy
not to be catching any fish. :smt002 Thanks for the report and pictures.

You guys are on it with the postings!
Sorry to be so late, but I had to process a trio of seabeasts into my freezer (and onto my grill!)
So, a fantastic day on the water up at Bean. I struggled with decisions Thursday night, but finally decided to stick to the plan and target the shallows for maybe a Bean Halibut.
Got to the beach to see the kind of water that makes you feel like you are in the islands. Jay and Craig were already there. Stoke! HDRich,Bigwavedave, Mad Dog, and EricB pull up and now we have a posse. We paddle out, carefully timing the breaks, and start fishing. Around 8am I get bit on a big swimbait-Lingcod, 28", 8.6 pounds. The bite starts up, with chunky cabs, gophers, big blacks, and other rockies. Bait is busting on the surface everywhere.
I feel that harsh tap of merciless predation transmit through the spectra and Fish on! It's the flat kind!
So, with the "how to properly gaff a halibut" conversation on the beach that very morning playing through my head "their heads are bony, the gaff might bounce off" "their gut is soft, the gaff might not hold" I get The Hook and nail the fish through the upper shoulder, pull 'em & into the bag, 29". EricB was there with the photo assist.
At this point I'm pretty set. This is more fish than I thought I'd bring home.
We are all spread out now, it's around 10:30 and I'm fishing near RavensBlack when I get that same "ain't effin' around" strike. Good hookset and Dang! this is a nice fish too. Line peels out, I bring a bit back in. Craig says something like "WTF another flattie!!?" I'm thinking no, this is a ling-when up comes another halibut, 27".
I'm in that almost surreal zone now, where you just have to do your best to accept the gift of the sea as impeccably as possible. It's around noon now, getting hot, so I'm reeling in to go, and as the swimbait cruises to the surface a MONSTER ling runs up at it like a torpedo and engulfs the lure. I watch it circle beneath the yak, sort of shocked (I've never seen a ling hit like that, in 12" of water-I think it would have jumped for the thing) and then, when it is apparent the fish has no intention of giving back my jig, Fish ONNNNNNNN, and the reel is humming! After a dogged, towing fight I get the fish up and secure, 34", 15.8 pounds.
I have rarely had such a catching day.
I had a really #$%!ing great time fishing with all of you guys.
