Just a quick post for the 1st of July.  Weather was a bit tough with wind and a terrible drift to the North.  We could not stay put in one location long enough to do much damage.  Cameron was out there as well as Reelknots(Kiel).  He managed to take two Lings for himself.

Yup!! Allan is right! the current is to strong, I end up losing a couple of my favorite lures that i ordered thru Meltons Tackle. :smt011...but I managed to catched a couple lings back to back in less than 15 mnutes before heading home.  :smt007...27 and 26 inches.  :smt002

Good job guys!!  Sorry I couldn't make it.  I was just too tired to drive.  I might give it a try tomorrow.  How heavy were the lures you're using?

Cheers
Willie

Thanks for the report Allan. I like the home made lure. I wouldn't of
believed it if I didn't see guitarzan slaying the rockfish one after another.
Good duplicate there Allan.

Congrats Kiel on the limit of lings and cool picture too.

Nice job guys. I plan on heading there in the morning so I hope there are a few left to catch! I'll post either way and hopefully it won't have the big drift you had.

yeah it was a fast drift yesterday. i ended up with two baby lings, a few gophers, a 24in ling and a fat 20.25 cabezon that went nine pounds. when i cleaned it it had a good sized octopus in its stomach, if your going i would throw that at them. here are a few pics, cameron

almost forgot, the swell coming in was alittle shall we say sloppy and hard to read. waited awhile and finally got a lull and started paddling in and caught a nice wave and started surfing it in, all was good, was braced up well and tought good this is going to be easy, and then it happened, it surged up a few feet and then no water under the bow, all i could get out was dammit and then the nose dropped and dug into the sand and did a nice big cartwheel in front of some tourists. next thing i know the yak is facing the opposite way and gear is in the surf, still holding the paddle with a death grip and it still is attached to the yak so get control and get the boat above surfline and head back in for gear. ended up finding both boxes of irons and lead heads bobbing, hog trough and water bottle, so the only thing i lost was alittle pride, and through my back out on the impact, nothing a few muscle relaxors and beer cant fix, cameron

That is a nice cabezon there Cameron. Dude, I am so glad you're OK.
my last trip there last year was the same. I waited outside for a while
for a nice set. Next thing you know came a huge swell that actually took
me in to the surf. I had no choice then but to ride it out. I was going
sideways as the wave was about to break. I instinctively braced myself
so I did not flip the kayak. When I landed to shore, the bow was facing
the ocean. I quickly jumped off the kayak before another big wave came.
But I must say, I was scarred to be drag back into the ocean with
crashing waves. I really need to learn to read these sets and take my
time with the launch and landing.

nice to meet you too kiel, and allan. yeah i have caught pretty much all my fish there this year on that scampi, unfortunately i got it hung up yesterday and could not free it and had to cut it free,  :smt011

thanks jedmo, that cab fought hard and was super heavy, thought it was a ling at first, and i am glad that did not lose any gear, had rods and paddle leashed but the boxes were in the milk crate so they went flying when i went airborne, time for a plano box and get rid of the milk crate, cameron

I had a similar incident that made me change over to the plano from the open crate.

And, as others here know, I am also a big fan of the tried-and-true scampi twin tail.

Nice read, nice pics, NICE REPORT! thanks!
