I practice getting back on, a.k.a. self rescue, intentionally every year.
I never had anyone take pictures. After seeing Chris' post; a slow day of fishing Tahoe made for the perfect opportunity.
From Kingfisher:
Quote
i had several cocktails to reproduce the dexterity reducing effects of cold ocean water!

No cocktails for that as Tahoe was cold enough but a few beers to reproduce the balancing difficulties of heavy swell.  :smt003

The things I either learned or that were reinforced:

Buckle the strap at the bottom of the PFD.

Scupper plugs limit your ability to use the hole as an aid in reaching across the bottom of the kayak to the other side when it is upside down.

The mirage drive fins easily lay flat when the kayak is upside down and I felt no in difference righting the Hobie as any other SOT.

When the kayak is upside down the air pocket near the seat is small and the supply is limited whereas near the mirage drive pedals it is large and vented. The pedals will smack you in the head as the kayak bobs on the water. The pedals can also catch the shoulder strap of the vest. Re:Buckle the bottom strap of the PFD.

After trying to stand in the tankwell and paddle I give a whole new respect to SUPs.
When I fell trying to do this it really launched the kayak several feet away from where I landed.

I need to start doing crunches.  :smt044

Practice, practice, practice.

Gee Mike thats cool. I mean that waters real cool. Shrinkage factor in full mode. Plus you need to get some sun. :smt044The only thing that had me worried when I was looking at the pics was when you are standing on the bottom of the hull and I saw the rudder sticking up. That could hurt landing on that. Beautiful pics man. Did Becky take them? Wrights lake 5th 6th and 7th of August. Hike to the falls?
