I am taking Nichole back out for round two for some more easy rockfish hunting. We are launching from the coastguard jetty around 10 am and probably be out for 4 or 5 hours. Going to fish the kelp beds behind cannery row. So if you guys can get your ladies out there with you guys, I think it would be a fun time!

I was hoping I would make this trip with you but we are going to be in southern California visiting the inlaws. I have to teach my brother inlaw how to fish for stripers  :smt044 Man, I hope all this smack talk doesn't bit me in the rear. Good luck, stay safe, and most importantly have fun!

Take Care,
Ray

Yeah you can fish from their yaks. Water was flat last time we went, little wind and chop from the boats but not too bad. Ill have to watch the weather as we get closer

Fully legal. Parking I think is $8 for all day. When you rent yaks from the place right there they launch you from the boat ramp. But is still a very easy paddle.

Yes and no on the fishing grounds. There are parrts that are protected, Ill try and find the link that gives the coordinates. But the cove right behind the aquarium is off limits to fishing. And down by Lovers Point

Jeff, you can also launch from San Carlos Beach (next to the Coastguard jetty). Costs $8 to park for the day (same as the lots near MBK) but a shorter portage and a shorter paddle to the kelp beds off Cannery Row. It's also more scenic IMO. There is usually decent fishing off The Row. Also check the shale reefs near the red mile bouy if you go out that way. Just beware of the reserve outside the aquarium (marked w/small bouys) and the new Lovers Pt SMR. Don't want any of my bros to get busted. http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mlpa/ccmpas_list.asp#lovers
HWY 1 to Del Monte Ave and go past MBK+Fisherman's Wharf, then through the tunnel and make your first right onto Foam, then a right at the first stoplight. Can't miss it--a big open park next to the jetty.
Good luck!!!

ahhh, makes sense now, while at the aquarium for fathers day i scoped out those yellow bouy's, wondered what the were, there was also a boat parked near there all day with a red/wht flag???

so you CAN NOT fish anywhere inbetween those bouy's correct? see pics

also, in the pics, is the red can in the pic the red mile marker you speak of?

not sure where loversww point is.....

Red buoy yes. Mile point. There is some white buoys I just stay on the outside of them and the shore.

As for that boat, I believe it has a diving flag up, warning other boats that there are divers in the water.

Just a reminder that there are no fish in Monterey.
 :smt002

You need to be aware of 2 reserves while fishing near The Row. First is a BS little reserve inside the kelp by the Aquarium---but at least its marked w/buoys. Second is the Lovers Pt SMR: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mlpa/ccmpas_list.asp#lovers
Open the DFG reserve map, and then open another browser window and bring up Google sat images. Then compare the two and you'll get an idea of where the boundaries are located. Or plug the boundaries into a GPS.

Very cool maps you posted Jeff. In the future, I'm just going to post a link to this Hookup when people ask about the MBK/San Carlos beach area.
