Hey there,

I mounted/gooped my cool custom transducer foam holder backwards, now realizing that the wider part of the tranducer was suppose to face backwards and the pointed end forward. Will the transducer still work accurately or will it now take a blanketed picture of everything behind me? I have an old hummingbird pirahna 5.

Also I have a Hobie peddle drive system, so I am wondering if the the wider pointed part of the transducer is facing backwards, will also now be distorted by the bubbles from the peddles. I mounted the whole unit up in front of the mast hole and so its definately out of the way, just facing backwards though.

I just need to know if anyone else mounted theirs backwards, and if it still works fine. Im not entirely familiar with how the FF transducers work, and if they shoot straight down or down and wide out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Geoff

From what I've been told it should be OK, but it sounds like you should just try it and then re-do it if necessary.  Good Times include the learning curves such as this one.   :smt001

Go to the Humminbird site they have sonar all explained. If you don't have GPS it's not as bad , but your side to side will be reversed.

ah ha - now that was what I wondering about - the side to side. Shoot if its reversed, thats crap. I guess Ill either have to peal and remount the thing or just push the transducer into the whole the opposite way, less flushed with the sides, but at least it will hold. Thanks guys for the help,

Geoff

If you've not even glued it in there yet just carve out a little room and embed that puppy in good 2" deep.

Good luck.   :smt006

Yeop - I carved and glued it already. Oh well, when I get home today, Ill see if its better to modify the carve or just rip it out and reglue.

Peddling backwards isnt an option on the hobie - dammit!

I know it works OK without the GPS and side imaging option as this is how I have mine installed. The specialized scupper hole on the Ocean Kayaks are setup to have you mount the transducer with the fat part facing forward. Not sure why they did this as they come with the markings on the kayak that it is humminbird compatible. So that would not be cool if this is truly the case.

Yah, It doesnt have the gps options, its an old model - but now Im torn, should I remount or just leave it. Shoot if yours works fine, I think Ill just leave it, except that the side scanning may be of everything behind me. Actually I dont even know if it has side scanning??! I got the thing used, without manuals, and dont know if the pirahna 5 can do side scanning.

Anyone with a hobie that mounted it backwards? Any issues with bubbles from the drive system behind it?

I think side scanning sonar is pretty upscale, and it doesn't seem likely that you have it.  I say use it and see how it works.  let us know.

oh crap!!!!!

Man, I just read your post, and, well..... I DID THE SAME EXACT THING!!!!

But the transducer is actually a little in front of me, so wont i be scannine and area that i will be moving into, rather then moving out of???

Or is that wrong...

on my power boat, i had it mounted on the back of the boat, fat part facing out wards, away from the boat.. so it seems id be scanning things ive already passed?

ive let mine dry for 3 days now, im not messing with it!!!

gonna try mine sunday, ill report back... i dont really seeing it being an issue for me... mines single beam, the beam shoots downward... side to side wont matter for me.... and for my fishing, its just a general ideal of contours and strutures, and depth.... i wont be trying to pinpoint fish on the sonar, lemme know how your goes!

I've heard about the good method, silicone, and pool noodle foam tranducer mounting, but never a crap mounted tranducer.

If you get the bubbles out it should work, I suppose.
