Are one of you experienced?
If not i recommend an experienced kayaker.
Also pfd, radios, first aid kit etc.

You might want to try easier launches to gain experience.

Newby's at hmb on rented yaks scares the sh*t outa me.

If you're good to go then the standard equipment like nets gaff etc.
The same lures, bait as anywhere else along the coast is good to go.

Not trying to insult anyone but i was not ready for hmb my first year.

Maybe stay within the sea wall area. There is a pretty big area to the north of the docs....I've always wondered if there are any hali's in that area

lol! so whos gonna roll out with us and lace us up?

any takers?

so does the HMBK rent to people who stay within the harbor area?

i was just tryna get a lil ocean experiance, i wasnt gonna head out to hawaii or anything trust me i respect the ocean , i spend alot of time on the delta and had more close calls then people prefer so im sure the ocean is more unforgiving

There is halibut in the harbor, its kinda a local knowlege thing. Fish from the mouthtowards the sunken boat; you'll see it when you get out there. I don't think you will have a problem renting as long as you stay in the harbor. They also catch small rock fish aroung the mouth of the harbor; watch for boats its narrow and they don't always notice a yak.

If you haven't fished or even yakked at HMB before, it's essential to either stay within the harbour or go with someone that knows the area. There are submerged rocks and shallow reefs all over the place as soon as you get outside the harbour. Plus, the weather forecast for Tuesday isn't very beginner-friendly.

NW WINDS 10 TO 20 KT. WIND WAVES 2 TO 4 FT.
NW SWELL 6 TO 8 FT.

Also, have a good look at this thread; there are a lot of items that are absolutely essential to have when heading out onto the ocean for the first time.

To be honest, I think the best thing would be to tag along on another hookup at HMB or MBK (Monterey Bay Kayaks) when the conditions aren't so ugly and there are experienced ocean kayakers out there.
