I am eternally thankful she doesn't look like me.  She will be quite a "catch".  Gotta keep my eyes on Joey Parks.

Paige, Joey, and Chris have been fishing together for years in Baja.  Joey is a serious Jr. slayer in his home port of Capitola.

The deadly duo back in the day...

Enforcement to date has been Chris' job.  His mantra...you make her cry-I'll make you cry.

BTW-part of going any place for me the first time is learning the ropes.  If I was to do this again (and I will) I will go in mid August of an even year.  August is in the thick of the bountiful coho run, and even years put a zillion pinks on top of that for non stop action.

Sean,

Sounds like you and Paige had a great time. Way to keep a fishin' tradition alive and well. It's going to be probably 3-4 more years before I get the entire family up to AK for a vacation, but I'm really looking forward to it :) :) :)

From what I've seen, Humpys in mid-August are going to be getting pretty manky. Seriously. I'd much, much rather fish for Dollys or Rainbows on a bit lighter gear, and accidentally snagging a Humpy is a major pain in the backside when you're using a 5 weight.

As well, mid-August sounds awful early for Silvers for a big chunk of the state. I know that Kodiak really doesn't start pumpin' til mid-September. Ditto for some rivers near Sitka. But don't take my word for it, go to the source:  ADFG fish counts for particular rivers If you're talking Silvers in the salt, then yes, mid-August is supposed to be good.

Every river is different and all of the locals said it is the peak for good coho angling in the Kenai.  Pinks wouldn't be manky, but not slated for the table either.   Supposedly they are very aggressive and are non-stop action...which for kids is the secret to happiness.
