I have tried for Halibut two times before to no avail. Time to give it another shot even thought the weather conditions forcast don't sound good. Got to hit it SOLO MISSION
I left my house at 5:00 am, at 6:45 I take the exit for Paradise and then it hits me "Oh Crap" forgot to get live bait. I turn around and go back to Loc Lomond and get what I need. Now it's time to get in the water. I get to the park and talked to the ranger. he tells me the weather was good yesterday and the wind never did come up, and people were catching fish. I launched at about 8:00 on a glassy bay with sunny skies(Surf trunks and Rash Guard weather).
I paddled out into about 17 feet of water and dropped down a halibut rig with a live shiner. The tide was going out very slowly and the wind which was almost nonexistent countered it, real SLOWWWW drift.
After about thirty minutes I feel a real light bump then my rod goes BENDO, the fight is on. I take some line in and he takes some out. I finally get him near the surface and "It's a Hali" my first one. I grab the net and get ready. He goes into the net and then right back out the other side. Down he goes for another run. After my heart skipped three beats I grab the rod and fight him back to the surface. This time he goes into the net for real, (Mental note to self, get bigger net). I grab the lip gripper and try to grab him and he starts snapping at me, fiesty little booger, he is obviously legal, time to put the bat to work. 26" Hali
I bait back up and start drifting again just enjoying the weather. About 45 minutes later I feel a little nibble. I put in free spool and wait, I feel a couple more nibbles and the he starts stripping line. I lock the spool and set the hook just like I was told. Fish on again. This one was not near as mad as the first one but did manage to soak me when I got him it the net. I could see he was bigger then the first so I put the bat back to work. Fish number two 29"
At about ten the wind started to come up, about 10 to 15 knots. I drifted until about 12:00 and paddled in with two fish in the boat. Going home happy, now I need to figure out how to fillet them, (Thanks Redyak)
I have several photos but am having problems posting them. Redyak should be posting one that he took at his house of me and my catch.

William, thats is just fantastic. 2 nice halibut. Well worth the drive. Those little moments in time when you do something cool like that by yourself are etched deeper into the soul. Congrats on the fish. Very, very nice work.

Nice! Thanks for the report, weather depending I'll be hittin' up Paradise on Saturday.

Rockhopper...................Sat 6/20 is my 40+ birthday.....We are supposed to stop counting at 40 right?.....Plan to be at Paradise that Sat/Sun with a custom rodbuilding friend from Sac.  Hope to see you there.

A friend has been chumming and cast-netting his own live shiners at Lock Lomond....Do you have a cast net and can you toss one?....It may save you a fortune in bait.

I will try and remember to bring the net.....but if you already have a replacement maybe we can figure out a needy yakker to pass it on to.....That won't be ME until I get a job and out of the red.
