Linda Mar (last week) had some time to burn and decided to shore fish for stripers for a change...since I can't seem to catch 'em from a kayak  :smt011 :smt002 I was fan casting a hair raiser in about 4 to 5 FOW for about a million times and finally convinced something to bite  :smt118  HULI KA!!!! (means "gotcha" in tagalog)  :headbang: So I'm thinking to myself that this is it  :kick ...my very first ocean caught striper  :party.....fought the beast to submission and ended up hauling this little bad boy instead.....

*caught and released to fight another day*

HMB / Tuesday / 08.16.09

Hooked-up with my HAC brow = Marv / Shicken....we were suppose to launch from the Harbor at 6AM.....Marv showed up two days later :smt011 :smt002 Anyway, Marv and I paddle out and met Courtney / Pharmer just as we were making our way out the Harbor mouth. The "reef" was breaking BIG so we paddled out and took our time looking for a window to pass through safely  - and we did. We fished the kelp beds for some little RF action. We made our way to mushroom rock (the protected side of Mavericks) and saw 3 SUP guys ripping it  :surf Also saw a couple of yak surfers (mr. magoo, were you out there?) I scored 2 underlings, a small cabby and half a dozen smallish RF (caught and released) and then the bite switch completely turned off. Marv bailed early coz he had to work so Pharmer and I stayed for a little bit. Swells were getting bigger so we made our way back and fished the wall but to no avail. Pharmer dropped his hoop net and got some crabs - he'll be having a good dinner tonight :smt002

Saw Wes and his buddy paddle out and dropping their crab pots right by surfers beach - they scored with some really nice dungies  :thumright: Nice seeing again you Wes  :smt006

The pelicans were working so I tied a swimbait and trolled around but got no fish love  :smt011 Paddled in and got my feet dry by 2PM.

My buddy Lee was on the Queen of Hearts today and they fished Pescadero - got their limits but not too many lings were caught :

Nice day on the water.  Was good to meet Mooch again and Marvin too.  Ended up with some rock crab from the hoop net and a RF dinner thanks to a generous piscatory donation from Mooch at the day's end.

Sea lions were all over the place.  Probably saw a half dozen different individuals while fishing before coming across these recumbent pups on the way in.

Mooch and Marvin,  thanks for the fishing tips and for letting me tag along.  Hope to see you back out there soon.

Man, I must really be out of it. I thought it was still JUNE :smt044

Nice work on the surf hali bruddah Mooch. You were missed at the Hollow last week. :smt009

BTW, I heard you mentioned in a Ka'au Crater Boys song last week "Surf"

"...I surf with the guys from the Kaiser surf crew, Manny, MOOCH, Bob, & Dennis too..."

I laughed out loud. I never realized how well known you were in the islands. :surf
