Is the fishing better at Stillwater South versus the Monterey launch by the coast gaurd jetty off of Foam St? I ask because we are planning on fishing Monterey this Friday for the first time and I will have my wife and kids there and was looking for a beach friendly area where they could enjoy themselves.

Thanks,
Ray

The fishing is better at Stillwater.

There is less actual beach there, but there's still plenty to do.

I've picnic'd at SWS before and it is a beautiful stretch just to chillax.  PB management removed the picnic tables last year so bring a blanket.  When the tide is low, plenty of white sand for the family to enjoy.  They also have the Lodge and Stillwater Cafe nearby so plenty of things to do. you can also beachcomb for golf balls, but look out overhead - those balls got onto that beach for a reason... :happy6:

How is parking? Based on google maps, it looks like it is the club parking lot.

Parking is limited to a small lot just before the club.  They used to allow the use of the last few spots in the club lot (closest to the beach) as long as you got there pretty early.  Not sure if that still goes, but I hope so.

For those fishing, what time are you planning on arriving?

It is the club parking lot. You can park in the spots closest to the steps to unload. Some folks leave their cars there, whereas some move them to a lot round the corner. The "laws" are a little unclear so I always move it to the lot round the corner to be safe. Plus it's less likely to pi55 off the folks in charge.

I was planning to get there at 8, but would be happy to get there earlier if everyone else is planning to; company is important  :smt008.

My brother Gabe and I will probably be there. I haven't committed yet because I was trying to see what the wife wanted to do. I think she now has other plans. I hope you guys don't mind if we tag along should we decide to fish there as this will be Gabe and my second trip in the ocean. We were up at Half Moon Bay last weekend and loved it. I assume this spot is ocean newbie friendly.

Thanks,
Ray

T'will be a pleasure to have your company Raydog. It certainly is newbie friendly. My wife and I both took our first ever ocean trip at Stillwater South. The launch is perhaps the easiest in the world and the ocean conditions should be decent on Friday. If they do kick up unexpectedly then we can alway duck inside the cove itself and fish.
