Launched near Highway 37 on the Napa River and headed North.  Anchored up and caught a couple of shorties on chovie chunks.  trolled further north and found what looked like a real fishy spot where I pulled the yak up and used the rod holders from shore (does this count as non-yak?)  Didn't catch anything at that spot but sure looked like a great place to fish.  A bunch of crap in the water though was fouling lines while trolling.  Oh well, nice day to be out, not as windy as it has been, but not calm!

Hi Zinful1,

That's a real fishy looking water there.  If you're competing for the AOTY then you have to catch fish OTW and from the kayak for the fish to be qualified.  Thanks for the report and pictures.  BTW, where exactly did you launch near HW37?  I've heard it's not safe to park your vehicle around that area.

found a way to get around a fence and park down by where people have been known to fish (on the Mare Island side).  I was worried about my suburban, but have parked there twice and have had good luck so far.  I have spoke with 2 of the street people that live near there and they know my vehicle too, so that helps.  I don't think it is real safe though.  You can launch at the Vallejo ramp, near the end of the river and ride the tide up.  I do want to get back to that one spot and give that a try again, I know a fish gathering spot when I see one!

Nice report from a spot off the beaten path, I like the pics too. Probably only schoolie stripers in those areas now I think the majority of big fish are cruising the coastal beaches right now
