I had to reconstruct a retaining wall and build a stronger 6ft fence. I was gong to hire someone to do it. They flaked out, so I got up there and dug out the existing concrete post holes(very fun and a post hole digger wouldn't even leave a mark on the soil it's soooo hard) so I borrowed a couple of tools from an Amish neighbor and got to work.

i'm too cheap to hire a day laborer when I'm fully capable of doing it myself, the old fashioned way, the right way, the dumb way!!   :smt005

Can't you get the Amish guy to gather his friends & have this done in an afternoon? They could probably raise a helluva barn while they're at it.  :smt002

Dude! I've got two little 4 foot retaining walls - 14 feet long each - all staked out. Keep watering the soil along them each night hoping that by next weekend or the weekend after they'll be soft enough for me to dig out.
TOTAL PITA

I feel your pain Adam.

Years ago I started the rebuilding process on the 6 foot redwood fence that surrounds the half acre plot we live on. They cemented every 4x4 instead of just the corner ones and one in the middle on long spans. Of course, back when they built it they didn't use pressure treated wood. :smt011

I bought one of those 6 foot breaker bars that weigh around 20 pounds. I quickly learned that the right way to break up the concrete is NOT to keep slamming the bar into the concrete, but to pick one strategic spot on the exposed concrete, and keep dropping the bar on that exact spot. That baby will crack before too long....

Slow and steady is the way to go!!!

i don't learn that quick......but slow&steady i was a chippin'

if there is a next one(and there will be) i'll be using that tip on every drop of the bar....thanks!
