Most of the sabiki I use have 20# main line and could easily handle blue gill.

I think it would be deadly on schooling bluegill and crappie under a bobber, better yet on a windy day and let the waves do the work jigging.

Wisconsin lakes are full of bluegill, when i was younger and didnt know what i was doing my buddy and i would just let the line drag with a fly on the end of it and we would pick up bluegill just getting to our spots, and that was when i didn't even know what trolling was.

I bet these sabiki's would rock on them, and that is going to be one of the first lines i drop when i get home

Hehehe, I must try the sabiki for bluegill idea out!!!  :smt005

I know a spot where they congregate at SCR by the shoreline.  When I got bored of trout fishing there, I'd play with the bluegills while waitn for a bite.  My favorite way to catch was with a tiny hook, and a dough mixture of flour, sugar, and tuna fish oil (carp bait).  Just a tiny bit on the hook, and they couldn't resist!

Be careful w/ the sabikis outside the ocean. Last time I was fishing the delta I brought the sabiki stick to possibly catch bait fish(threadfin shad). A fisherman out there I was BSing with was mystified by the contraption, especially the actual sabiki jig. He had a look in his eyes like imagining the possibilities w/ it, but he said he was fairly certain it was illegal to use there. So check the regs before, could possibly save you some trouble/ticket. I never looked into it though, so am not sure about the legality

The Sabiki is also great when out with kids.  Their eyes light up when all those fish come up the same time on the rig.  I have used it of off piers before just dropping it down and working it in a vertical motion.  Worked great

Sabiki means "fish skin" in japanese.....the little hooks are like tiny shrimp flys and originally the "fly" portion was contrived from fish skins....many still are.

A  white hoochie tipped with squid  behind a two to four ounce sinker will always pay off. Try it in the top 10' sometimes for black rf that are there looking for bait.
I've been trying various buzz baits with high hopes but only one halibut so far ,which I think was an accident, sort of, just caught him in the right mood I guess.

So if I'm not trying to catch baits for butts, and I think I'm gonna be running and gunning, I use a 4 ounce chrome krocodile spoon.  It trolls well, and I can also jig it like an iron.  Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any more of the 4 ounce krocs and I'm down to only one left.   :smt010
