I have a Tarpon 140 and love it. But standing up is not easy. In fact, it's much harder than wakeboarding...and I used to get paid to do that haha! The only reason you'd want to stand is if you're sight-fishing bass in shallow. And even then, you can get just as good of an angle by getting up on your knees (just don't try that on a kayak w/corrugated/molded footwells--you want the flat footwells if you plan to try that manuever).
If you're anxious to get on the water, you can always find an OK Scrambler for cheap. It isn't a big boat but I used to paddle one and worked fine. Heck, another NCKAer used to paddle one and he's like 6'4" or something! You can find SCramblers on craigslist for like 200-400 bucks. I know kayakcity.com has new angler models for under 500 too.
Good luck!

Yeah, My wife's brother in law is like 6'11" or something crazy like that (the dude is TALL) and he's paddled a scrambler XT for the last 11 years or so.

I'm now paddling a Tarpon 140 and I agree with Sin Coast. I love it. Stable, fast, just light enough for one person to throw onto a roof rack. I often use a cart & transport the yak 1/4 or so to launches without a problem.
I've never tried standing up in it, but on a lake or calm water I guess it could be done.

By the way the "WTTM" in my fisrt post was meant as "Welcome To The Madness" :smt044

Dude, your writing style is cracking me UP! You've got the bug for certain. Get a yak & let's get goin' on this.

I also have a Tarpon 140 and a Cobra Escape (light and tiny).
Granted, I'm still new and my Tarpon hasn't seen salt, but I love it.  It's stable yet quick - plenty of storage.... but I agree, demo demo demo!

WTTM...and we've all been there done that.  Get one your gonna be comfortable in, cuz by the way you're typing, you're gonna be spending lots of time on it!  Keep it simple and you'll have a blast. No more waiting for a fish to swim past your hook. You'll be able to hunt them down and drop stuff right on top of them.
There are soooo many different makes/models out there, just see what all the Vets are paddling(there is a reason why there are in what they're in) and make a short list, hook up with someone around your parts(most do have an xtra yak) and take your pole with you.
Looking forward to your enthusiastic reports real soon!

Thanks FishHunter and best believe im taking your guys advice i have no clue at all so thanks for everybody's input.

so today me and a buddy of mine went to Outback Adventure to test out some demos. Just like fishhunter stated we demoed only the popular one tat is most used :smt003 so we got to the spot at 10am weather was hella nice and the dude there Greg was hellza cool. we told him wat we wanted to test out and he just grab all of them and let us be us  :smt002. Kayak demoed today were Ocean Kayak prowler 13 and the T15, Wilderness Systems Tarpon 140 and 160, Malibu X-Factor and X13. Each of us demoed all the model listed for a total of four hours it was hella fun n during our demo my boy got hella comfortable with the T15 he was leaning back to his seat well like i said he was hella comfortable instead of leaning in the seat the fucker leans all the way back and takes a fucking dip HAHA LOL  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 FREAKING hilarious i was rolling got tears  :smt010 :smt010 coming out of my eyes and he was trying to get up on it and that just made the matter even funnier cus his ass couldn't get up haha lol  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 anyway after several attempts he couldn't get up so he swam his ass to the bank haha lol  :smt003 :smt003 :smt003 :smt003 so i yelled at him you might as well try the X-Factor and see if you can do Self Rescue since your ass is already wet haha so he did and this time he made it look easy so im all if you can get on that might as well try to get on the T15 and after that he just made it look easy so my friend has taught him self Self Rescue haha lol so we stayed and linger a lil just practicing turning standing on the yaks paddling over all it was a hell of an experience and now IM READY TO PURCHASE haha lol

So wat i decide to go with if i have enough money my first choice is the Tarpon 140 whooooooooo rides like a champ and my second choice is the T15.

My buddy i think his First choice is the Malibu X-Factor his second choice is the T15 but hes a lil skittish of it haha lol and his third is the Tarpon 140.

AGAIN THANKS GUYS TO ALL WHO POSTED WITH ADVICE AND TIPS YA REALLY HELPED A BROTHER OUT!!!! JAI BOI!!!!!!! LETS RIP SOME LIPS SOON
