Met up with porky around 6:00. We watched the surf and it was stronger than i have seen it in a longtime. After obser ing we found a pattern we could live with. This was the first surf launch for porky so we were extra careful.
Porky nailed it, launched with no problem.

Fished the kelp beds and trolled the sand for halibut. It was very very slow. But the weather was nice and theswell layed down for a nice day on the water.

Finally moved away from the kelp and fished a little deeper and found some structure. Porky caught a decent brown and a little while later i hooked a nice fat brown. Other than that real slow.
We decided to go back in around 11:30 and had a nice landing on the beach.
Overall a good time and new friend made.

It was a typical capitola day, at least we were on the water.

Good times

Thanks for the Capitola update, Stoggie. Sorry to hear the fishing was slower than you guys hoped for. Curious to know what you guys were using for bait and if you saw any live bait balls around?

Calbear

We did run into a few schools of bait fish and caught a handful to use fort he day.
We caught some nice mackerel about 8 inch.

I caught my fish on a nice metal jig with a shrimp fly attached to the abck end courtesy of hojoman. He gave me some real nice stuff the other day in a care package to replace my lost lures. They worked great, thanks hojo.

I was with my buddy in a PB today. We worked the area north of the harbor for 7 browns. But the time we made it down to capitola you guys had gone for the day. We headed in around 1pm when the wind started to really blow. The only live bait was down by the cement ship.

Had a great time out there Stoggie., Thanks for the beach launch tips, and the landing tips. No problems with either, yet!

Conditions were great till the wind sped up our drifts. BEAUTIFUL outside today.

Got to take my new boat out, LOVE IT. The T-13 rules! Was totally comfortable moving around and accessing the back tank well for gear, could sit sideways no problem on this boat, and Im a rookie. I felt VERY comfortable.

Yup, fishing was slow. We found the live bait early, but still nothing.

As Stoggie said we got one brown each, his being the bigger fish of the two. Had mine cleaned and fried into a fish sandwich by 1pm, perfect amount for lunch! Nothing beats really fresh fish. Cat-nap by 1:15 then off to meet some family for lunch back down at the wharf by 3pm. Saw a really nice Hali in the cooler down there, it was caught at the Capitola mile reef.........

Few fish, Great times, and Stoggie was great company.

That's my dream sunday right there.  Early on early off, with a fresh fish lunch before a leisurely nap!  You are one lucky dude Porky.  Glad you guys got into some fish.

BTW, did you guys happen to pick me up on 69 that far south?

Oh yeah!

Got the flush mounts installed..

got the PVC rod holders installed on the Plano box.

all i need is a depth finder really..

Gonna wait a bit on the rod pod hatch, i kinda like it all sealed upw, and it works as a great area to put crap while on the water...

I do need to make some rod leashes, other then that im ready to go!

Nice. Yeah, the rod pod can wait. Thats one hell of a big hole to cut. Hit up a goodwill for the curly phone cords or old car cell phone chargers. A few zip ties and a clip and you are good to go. I usually can make two from one cord.
